Well the whole fast thing/slow etc is relative to the line or weight used to flex the rod.
    (I suppose?) ๐Ÿ˜•

How do they decide which line weight goes with each rod?
We all believe the line will affect the rod action..don’t we? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ;D

    Well said mate.
    Nice and simple….You’re an aussie arn’t you? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ;D

Only by casting a heap of rods will you eventually find one that “speaks” to you and if pride of ownership is part of the ย purchasing decision then all the more pleasure you will get from owning it.

I love to try different rods… my problem is I luv em all! ::) ๐Ÿ™‚

Welcome and I am sure you will have an absolute blast down here.
If you are down here for as long as you propose you’ll certainly work it out. Get a good pair of boots preferably aquastealth with studs and be prepared to clean your gear between all waterways.
Smile lots as the locals are all very friendly ๐Ÿ™‚
If you are here for as long as you say be prepared to leave briefly after 3 months for visa purposes, most US nationals I know go to Fiji or Australia for a week or so and then return.
There is a shortage of seasonal workers (There are dispensations for tourists if there is a shortage) and you might pick up the odd job to help pay for your gas.
If you are down all this way I would recommend you make the effort to go to Australia as well.

I like the latest one on gear in American Angler too….maybe I just love gear! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Mike
I got to cast a bunch at the Denver Show and now own the 6wt 9fter and the 8’6 5wt and 3wt. For me these fit what I’m after.
I like a more progressive (slower? ::)) action than the TCRs and even the Z series perhaps? (I have a couple of them too though :-[ :-X :-/ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜‰
I really like them for short to medium casting distances and when I know I won’t be chucking tungstan or suchlike.
The 6wt was not too much on a wee stream near home and had lots of backbone keeping the fish from the trees. It handled a streamer without protest and I would happily use it to chase big boys in NZ’s backcountry. I was using a GPX line on it.
If I had to choose one 6wt rod for NZ and had no idea where I was going to fish, I would probably choose this rod. I like the action and it would handle what was required. I would say it is definitely slower than the Z and maybe even a little like a 7wt B2X Winston – a little tippier though ::)!

I have an the IM6 8’6 Winston (so not WT sorry..but close ::)?) in 5 and the new ZXL in 8’6 5wt also. Different rods but both extremely smoooooth! ๐Ÿ™‚
Each day is different but I seem to be taking the Sage fishing more than my “green stick”. ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve also been playing with the 8’6 3wt ZXL. Very nice!!!!

Poudre, I have only experienced the AFFTA Tradeshow where I met Steve, Zach and many others. It was an amazing event from a first timer’s point of view. I’d love to go back.

Morsie did no-one warn you about quicksand! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ::)
I’d have looked after your cameras for ya! You sure the other boys weren’t just eyeing up your rod collection?!

I’d also vouch for the fishing opportunities in the US in Sept! Just awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks very much guys
The effect you create with that photo John is exactly what I’m trying to achieve and as Morsie has said, perhaps its time to get a decent SLR? ::)

I’ll try those things you’ve suggested. Great advice.

Steve I’m on Greg’s boat next July.
Why don’t you come down and hang on the same trip?
    We’ve planned permit tides…… ๐Ÿ˜‰ ::)

Zach, Uggs are the traditional garb for an aussie all nighter. Wolves in sheep’s clothing and all that good stuff
