    Hello Everyong,

I am wanting to get a little information on the Sage ZXL series.

    Mike,

Sorry I don’t have anything on the 6wt specifically, but I do have the 8′ 4wt.

I have a LL 8’9″ 3 weight and have cast the 8’6″ 4 weight ZXL. I would say it is a similar action. I want to try a 9′ 4 weight and 5 weight. They are beautiful rods.

I have the ZXL 9′ 6 weight here and also the TXL 7’10” #4.

If you like a slower actioned type of rod these are the babies to fish. The TXL with it’s shorter length throws some nice loops. This one I wasn’t even trying to be tight, just messing about… I was very impressed…

The ZXL Has quickly become a favorite. It’s only been here a couple of weeks, but it’s been well used already. A lovely rod. Not a rip shit and bust rod, but a nice easy actioned fishing tool.

As always, your mileage may vary.

You can judge a man by the size of things which annoy him.

    Hi Mike
I got to cast a bunch at the Denver Show and now own the 6wt 9fter and the 8’6 5wt and 3wt. For me these fit what I’m after.
I like a more progressive (slower? ::)) action than the TCRs and even the Z series perhaps? (I have a couple of them too though :-[ :-X :-/ 🙂 😉
I really like them for short to medium casting distances and when I know I won’t be chucking tungstan or suchlike.
The 6wt was not too much on a wee stream near home and had lots of backbone keeping the fish from the trees. It handled a streamer without protest and I would happily use it to chase big boys in NZ’s backcountry. I was using a GPX line on it.
If I had to choose one 6wt rod for NZ and had no idea where I was going to fish, I would probably choose this rod. I like the action and it would handle what was required. I would say it is definitely slower than the Z and maybe even a little like a 7wt B2X Winston – a little tippier though ::)!

I fished the 690 ZXL a good deal in NZed recently, in fact I used it most of the time when I had intended mixing the rods around a little, it was just so smooth and sweet. It did really battle one day in a screaming north westerly when a TCR might have coped better. I rate these as great “fishing rods” rather than rip bust and tear casting rods – very sweet in close and out to 70 feet – just perfect with a Rio Gold line. At no time do I feel its necessary to upline this rod or to even go to one of the “half weight up” lines.
