MemberI really like this youtube video about fly fishing in the Florida Everglades backcountry for Snook. It seems to really capture the experience with both the frustration and excitement. A lot of people have been asking about saltwater fly fishing lately and this is basically what it can be like your first time out. I think this guy put together a pretty cool little piece.

Bob RigginsMemberNice piece. I also liked they way the properly handled the fish. Try it out of a kayak sometimes. You can go for quite a sleigh ride with a big snook or red.

noneMemberI hate fly fishing video’s on YouTube. It’s so blurry / low res that you don’t see much of the stuff that’s really interesting.
I hope the video codec will improve by a huge margin because now it’s nothing more than a bunch of blocky pixels moving around supported by sound.

MemberJay, I am curious about your internet connection because youtube videos on my Macbook and on my office computer are generally very clear and of good quality.

noneMemberI have a broadband (DSL) connection. My Macbook Pro isn’t a slouch either.
But take a look at the snapshot I took of the clip mentioned here. This is a snap of the croc. Not a sharply outlined croc but more of a pixelated & blurry croc. Does your clips look sharper than this?

Bob RigginsMemberThat’s interesting.

MemberNeal, Flies and fins, these guys are pretty cool…the guy with blue shirt, Jeremy, produce several nice fishing songs too.

noneMemberThat’s interesting. They came across pretty clear on my computer too. Is there some kind of compression setting on your computer that is screwing them up?
I just installed the latest Flash player from Adobe and no improvement. It still looks blurry…
Now I’m REALL curious how sharp and crisp the video’s on your computers are….

MemberJay, I have the same setup (MacBook Pro 17″ and a DSL connection – and my DSL is pretty crappy slow). The video is quite clear on my computer. For example, I can even see the flies they hold up with detail enough to see individual fibers. The Croc is also clear and the fish jumping in the water – each individual splash is noticeable. I have recently made a webpage for a friend and guide http://www.gregpoland.com and we linked a few youtube videos on the site and they also play clearly on both my computer and his older Mac. I am using Safari just like you.

noneMemberCould you take a snapshot of the same part of the clip as min and see what the difference(s) is/are?

MemberI know this is an ignorant question but I’ve not done much salt water fly fishing: why doesn’t the angler get these fish on the reel as soon as possible? I understand in a mangrove environment you want to pull the fish away from the root tangles right away and the best way to do that might be to yank in several yards of line following the strike. But this guy never lets the drag on the reel work the fish, once he’s got it out in open water. Also, on my one guided fly fishing trip down in that area, the guide told my buddy and me to avoid false casting. The guy in this video seems to false cast half a dozen times before laying the line out. Just wondering if the no-false-casting rule is widely held or if it was just this guide’s personal preference.
