If you only had one Steelhead fly……

I know we have a lot of steelheaders on this board so I ask this question. If you only had one Steelhead fly to fish during the winter months what would it be? Sure I know there are lots of factors that can affect this decision like where you are fishing, how you are fishing and so on and so forth but I just want to hear your opinions based on what you normally do.

I have only been fishing for Steelhead a few times and am going to fish the Trinity in California in two weeks so I am looking for all the help that you are willing to offer to get me hooked up and hooked up often!

I do well on an egg pattern all winter long (dubbed or egg yarn with a bead center drifts and rolls better than McFly foam).

Sucker spawn eggs are the best all around producer here in the great lakes my favorite colors would cheese or bubble gum

Ok it looks like I need to make sure I have some egg patterns, stone fly nymphs and some buggers. That should be easy! Anyone ever try the old San Juan worm? Worms are in about every stream or river I have ever fished so it seams like a possibility?

Morsie nice fish! Were you swinging that bugger or stripping it when you hooked that pig?

I carry a green San Juan but I don’t remember ever getting a hit on it, a few more that work here in the great lakes waters egg sucking leech, sack fri, ice alvins, puke flies. Let me know if you need pictures.
