Clint the MO is pretty slow fishing right now but YOU should be able to get it done. My favorite float on that river is Mid Canon to Prewett Creek. It is a beautiful section of river and there is a lot of great fishing along the way. Tandem nymph rigs and dead drifted or slow moving streamers should get you hooked up. Egg patterns can be very good this time of year!

Neal, I think if I were you I would give the Spey thing a try. I have really been thinking about it myself. That said I certainly would not use my salt water trips to try and learn on. Use something you know how too use and have fun on those trips. Than come back and learn how to spey. Espeacially since Zach has offered too show you how! 😉

Daniel fishing could be very tough for you if you are going in a month. They have GOBS of snow up there and when it starts to melt there will be little to no chance of any wade fishing up there. Neal is pretty much right on base when he says it is hard to wade. The water is big up there but there are some areas you can get too if wading is your only option. I would recommend stopping by one of the local fly shops and picking their brains and getting some directions.

Mike Trump, I would go with Simms or Patagonia. I have both and sell both in the little shop I run. Simms waders are just simply well built and they are the last and ONLY wader made in the good old USA! That alone is enough reason for me to buy them. Plus their customer service is extremely good!
Patagonia is the same way. They are a great wader that is well built and they breathe very well. And their warrenty just simply can’t be beat!
I would also look at your purchase as a long term investment. Because I feel like you really get what you pay for when it comes to waders. Just my 2 bits.

Neal I think this is kind of a tough question. For me it depends on what time of year I am fishing and what water I am fishing. Not to mention what is hatching on the water you are fishing at that particular time. For instance very soon here in Montana we will start seeing a lot of Skwalas on the water and right behind them we will see a good amount of March Browns. I have had great luck fishing a Skwala dry with a size 12 or 14 BH Pheasantail in this situation. Later on in the Spring we see the Salmon fly hatch which normally the Salmon Fly dry and stand alone but if action is slow you could tie a BH golden stone off it and likely be hooked up a lot as the Goldens come out to play about the same time as the Salmon Flies do! (I also like dropping a red or pink San Juan worm this time of year but don’t tell anybody

I was bummed I didn’t get to speak with you yesterday when I called the shop. The lady I spoke with was very nice and the whole process was silky smooth. I sure hope you get a lot of support from the folks on this board. The last thing a cancer victom needs to worry about is financial problems when they are battling for their life.

How is the airport running down there? I fly through Atlanta on Friday afternoon and really don’t feel like getting stuck there. (No offense I am just heading to the Virgin Islands for ten days) I got stuck in that airport a few years back because of a big storm and all I can say is it rains damn hard in that part of the world!

Steve I think it is great that you guys are doing this for the Hada’s. I have never met them before but it is obvious to me that they must be great people by the amount of support they are getting! You can count me in! Hopefully when Marlene finds out that she is getting support all the way from Montana it will put a little extra fight in her and she kicks the crap out that cancer!

Kevin that is a great story. Even though parts of it are sad your tragedy seems to have changed you for the better. Amazing how it sometimes takes an event like this to make us stand back and reevaluate our lives and figure out what is important and what is not. It sounds like the most important things in your life were saved from the fire. You, your wife, your expected child, your beagle, and most importantly your memories. All that other “stuff” can be replaced!

That is a very kind offer Mike! I doubt I will be able to swing it this year but you can damn well bet it will be on my agenda for next year! When is the best time to come down?
BTW you need to come out west and visit Ron and I too! We don’t have any 20lb fish in these parts but we could sure help you get your trout fix!

Great post Mike! I got my first chance at Wipers this past year and I can understand your addiction! I caught one six pounder and it felt like a freight train hit my line! Fun stuff for sure!

Tim I would vote for Missoula and here is why. You could home base in Missoula and fish the Bitterroot, Clark Fork, Blackfoot, and Rock Creek and be to all those places within a half hour to forty five minutes. All of those rivers fish very well in the Spring and Fall and can be really good in the summer if they have good flows.
Missoula has a lot of nice places to stay and many good places too eat and drink.
