Missouri River

I haven’t floated the Mo. before so I am looking for some info. We are probably going to float this weekend. The guy who wants to take me will be throwing gear and wants to get in at Craig. Where sould we plan on getting out? I was thinking Stickney Creek or Spite Hill. Neither he or I have floated this section before, but from what I’m told there shouldn’t be anything to tricky as far as the float goes. Is this right? Are these takeouts easy to spot? Most importantly how’s the fishing?

 Have the shuttle park your car where you can see it from the river,   wolf creek to craig is easy as you will see the town and the craig ramp is  just before the bridge..  

 I guess you can read the weather on the internet and there are webcams showing this area..   Im not really deep into this part of the river, but your going downstream and the fish are going up stream..   Id go up and bank fish on the east side just below the dam and see how that goes..  you could do very well there using pink down under..

Clint the MO is pretty slow fishing right now but YOU should be able to get it done. My favorite float on that river is Mid Canon to Prewett Creek. It is a beautiful section of river and there is a lot of great fishing along the way. Tandem nymph rigs and dead drifted or slow moving streamers should get you hooked up. Egg patterns can be very good this time of year!

I would go into the trout shop in craig and have them do a shuttle for you wolf creek to craig. easy float. some of the very best water. I heard good report just today on this very stretch. previous post is spot on…it’s very easy to see the take out b/c you see the town & the bridge etc. I usually fish this stretch early in season and move lower as things heat up and crowds come

i love every single stretch on this river. but think you get the most out of wolf creek to craig at this point in the year

craig to stickney is fun, but short. if you do this I would add spite to get a little extra time on the water. and it is literally the easiest take out on the planet. you just veery over to right and beach it

tell mike bushley in trout shop that the fly fish chick in austin texas says hello and you want much better information than I just gave you

We ended up floating from Craig to the Mid-Canyon takeout. The weather was great, and the fishing pretty good also. I did well with streamers all day, and the guy I went with was throughing gear and did pretty well also. We both caught about 20 fish, mostly browns with a few rainbows. After we finished the float we went back to a stretch just below Craig and he did real well jigging. It was a fun day. Here are some pictures, the first one is a brown I caught and then a brown he caught. Maybe I’ll post more when he emails them to me.
