David AndersonMemberI hope the faster focus on the A700 will allow me to get some good dragon shots like Johns.
They are a pain to shoot, I chased one all over for about half an hour once and got zip..
That’s when I gave up on insects.. ;D

David AndersonMemberYep, lots of great shots there !
I love the 50 and 100 Canon Macros and almost always have both on a fishing trip.
Often I just take the 16-35 and the 100 macro to keep weight down, the 100 does great portraits and is also a good lens for shooting full length angler shots.
Both the 50 and 100 are very sharp. Here’s a tighter shot.

And a full length angler shot.

And one from work-

David AndersonMemberThe 691 is my favorite rod and IMO needs no over-lining to fish at any range.
That said, one of the more aggressive lines like a GPX or Rio Grand will put a little more bend in one.
I really like at SA Redfish line on mine for bass (Australian) and Jungle perch, because both are caught with larger flies into cover at anything from a few feet to a full line away.

David AndersonMemberI really want to try the 5 TCX because I thought the TCR 5, while a great casting rod, was a little to stiff for fishing and never bought one.
The 6 & 9 TCR’s on the other hand are two of the best rods you can get IMHO.I also have the 10′ #7 and it’s the most unforgiving rod, but on the right water and with the right line it’s awesome, so it will be interesting to see what they do with that.
As to the color, what did anyone expect from Jerry – he did used to work for Winston.. ;D

David AndersonMemberI’m also very much waiting for the new bags and chest packs that are coming out this season and have held off buying one for months now in anticipation.
I wouldn’t mind a pack section that offers protection for camera gear and is designed to carry a bit of weight, but still has the right sort of set-up for fly gear.Zach, did you see anything that’s worth looking at from a photographic point of view ?
Also, Morsie said there’s a new 2 weight Sage ZXl and I’m dying to try one !
PS – listened to the podcasts last night – awesome and thank you !!

*note #2 – definitions to help with the above statement.
Hetro – straight.
Homo – gay.
Retro – old.
Metro – desperate.;D

David AndersonMemberWell spotted Tim.
Maybe fly fishing, with all it’s accessories and lifestyle possibilities is now appealing to the more effeminate male ?
There have been clues to this for a while now like all the color creeping into fishing luggasge, tools and apperal, you only have to look through the Fishpond stuff to see what I mean.
Or what about zippers on waders ?
Surley a sign that the sport has gone broder than the now relatively rare hetrosexual male and now appeals to homo’s, metro’s and retro’s alike.Another pointer IMHO is also check fishing shirts from Orvis, surley no self respecting, god fesring, fishin’ huntin’ ****in’ & fightin’ straight man would be sean dead in one ?

David AndersonMemberbut also add that digital does such a poor job of rendering highlights that people have become tone deaf to what good black and white should look like
Zach
Not sure I would agree with that, highlights were a big problem with early digital cameras and might still be a problem with poor processing of current models, but I’m very happy with what I’m getting.
The DsIII (as an example) renders beautiful tonal range that’s far better IMHO than slides ever were, but like slide film, you have to get things right to get the best results. That means saying no to Jpegs, auto white balance and blanket contrast settings and learning everything you can about proper exposure in shooting and post processing.
That’s what the old school heros like Ansel Adams and Weston did, they were in control of the image from start to finish and took no short cuts.

David AndersonMemberI wouldn’t kick yourself about it, nothing wrong with crop frame cameras, in fact they do have advantages with long & macro lenses.
You’re right IMO about buying full frame lenses because at some point I would guess that most cameras, even the cheapies, will be full frame.
I’ve had to change cameras 4 times now since digital, but I still have most of the lenses and rarely turn them over because I only get the good ones.
