MemberYeah, I ‘ve tried it. I have a 691-4 coming for me with the first order for the shop I work at. That will be my second new Sage in a month, I think I have a problem ::)

MemberWell you have to use that shop discount sometime don’t you! How does it compare to the TCR? I only cast the 5 weight TCR but a lot of power in the rod. Would you cosider the TCX a more “fishable” rod? Meaning more usable over a wide variety of conditons, not just for wind and distance etc.

MemberI casted the 5,6,and 8wt. TCX. It far surpasses the TCR. The best way to describe the rod would be a cross between a Z-axis and Xi2, with the power of the Xi2, with a hint more speed and the feel of the Z-axis. The rod felt great. This is going to become my go to streamer rod and my light saltwater rod.

MemberThat $ 780.00 is a hurdle I may never overcome.

The Itinerant AnglerIt is a lighter and more flexible version of the TCR, built on the same taper with Sage’s G5 technology (*whatever that is – all I know is it makes it lighter and more flexible).

David AndersonMemberI really want to try the 5 TCX because I thought the TCR 5, while a great casting rod, was a little to stiff for fishing and never bought one.
The 6 & 9 TCR’s on the other hand are two of the best rods you can get IMHO.I also have the 10′ #7 and it’s the most unforgiving rod, but on the right water and with the right line it’s awesome, so it will be interesting to see what they do with that.
As to the color, what did anyone expect from Jerry – he did used to work for Winston.. ;D

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

The Itinerant AnglerDude that rod is a long way from Winston green.

noneMemberMan that green is something else! In Holland we’d call it ‘Erwtensoep’ meaning ‘green pea soup’ 😀
Sage is indeed coming up with some strange blank colors these years. My favorite color is still the deep red of the LL series.I like the TCR as a replacement for a canon but never thought it would be as good for fishing. At least for anything smaller than 4x tippet.
I’ll have to see & cast the new rod myself before judging.

The Itinerant AnglerI actually thought the TCR was the most gorgeous rod Sage ever made.

MemberOf course, my primary fishing rod is a Scott G2, which I analogize to a one-eared German Shorthair: ugly til you see it in action.
ZachAmen brother. I think the G2 maybe a German Wirehair – an all around versatile dog. But my new G2 is my favorite rod as well, my Winston (an English Setter) lost it’s home in my truck to the G2 Â – but I am quickly falling in love with my wife’s Scott S4 = a fit, well run English pointer.
I miss my Scott G but the G2 is a better all around rod.

MemberI will never let my G go.

MemberI know a shop in Michigan that still has G’s in stock, and I think they were at full retail still last time I looked this spring.

MemberI will never let my G go. Â I even had a second tip made for it as an insurance policy.
I lost mine in a fire but all is well. I would buy another G if I found it but I would get something really light not the 5wt that I had. Scott reintroduces rods each year so it will come back around. The G2 is a sweet rod.
I do not know why I cannot get excited about the Sage Rods. I know they make a great rod and many folks love em but personally I am just not a fan – I am the same about Orvis. I do like that new funkadelic green, but it doesnt make me think fly fishing for some reason.

MemberWhat shop?
My friend worked for Hanks in MI and they had one. Â Mine is a 8’4″ 5 weight 5 pc. Â I love it although I currently have a rio gold line on it and it is a little overloaded with that line. Â I need to go back to a cortland peach line to make it perfect.

MemberSpencer,
Well, its not technically a shop, its the fly department at Lunker’s. They had I think around half a dozen last time I was up.

MemberI think the more moderate action rods are a pleasure to fish. I have a Sage 8’9′ 3wt. LL that I paired with the Quiet Taper line and its just great fun to fish. The Scott G 8’8″ 3 and 4 wt. rods are super smooth as well as the Winston TMF and the rest of the WT rods are really nice.
