Great tribute. Reading his wife’s words really moved me. I am glad to know that he was a man of strong faith.

Your article on desert quail was my favorite.

I have a droid 2 and its a very useful tool. Extremely fast and useful. My father has an Iphone 4G and I really do not see an advantage to it over my droid.

I had a blackberry curve before that and when I got it 2 years ago it was a great phone for the time. I think that the blackberry platform does not compare to the droid that i have now. I did a lot of battery removal restarts with my blackberry and it would often jump on speaker phone with none of the buttons working in the middle of calls. The good thing is that they were always willing to help me customer service wise, if you don’t mind spending half of an afternoon at the phone store.

Copper Johns! I never catch fish on them.

A close second would be whatever the newest western cutthroat hopper pattern is that gets shipped over here to the southeast that gets used as a $1.99 indicator all day.

Third would be zoo cougars or any zoo cougar variation

Mike, Looks like a typical Dukes day, a few hookups, much less landed and lots and lots of walking

This is for sure one of my favorite podcasts! I love how technical he was in explaining components that separate premium US reels from imports and how they are priced accordingly

in reply to: Backing Question #46232

25 yards on top of 200 yards of backing is pretty insignificant.  How often have you had a fish pull that far?  I’d fire up the motor and start chasing the thing before it got to the point where 25 yards of backing would make or break the situation.

yeah, you’re right. If a fish gets out to a certain point and you are stationary, 25 yds will probably not save you.

But from a technical standpoint, are there any differences between the two or is it just fly angler marketing vs conventional tackle marketing.

I did a bit of research and I was reminded that braided line can spin on a spool under heavy loads, will Dacron do that as well?

    Great video Tim

I read a report this week from David Mangum and he said that this is the best year of LA fishing that he ever remembers.

Did you get any good pics?

in reply to: Canon rumors??? #71663

I guess if clean images at crazy high ISO and 10fps is your thing then this camera is alright.  🙂 I’ll put up some stuff later didn’t have much time last night.
I did play with the Movie mode some. Wow.

I have been drooling over the 7D for similar reasons. Its just hard for me to sink money into technology right now while I’m boatless.

Tim, Im really starting to look forward to your reports. Excellent stuff man. I will keep living vicariously through you

in reply to: Best large luggage for fly fishing? #46193

    Jay Lee,

Most airlines have a 60″ maximum combined size of checked baggage so be sure to take that you take that into consideration unless you plan on paying for over-sized baggage on a regular basis. a good example would be a bag that is 30″ long x 15″ tall by 15″ wide = 60″ total combined size.

typically I go with Zach’s approach. My boat bag with all of the essentials, a dan bailey rod tube with 4-6 rods and then a basic rolling duffel from the Samsonite outlet with overflow stuff.

keep in mind there are a few good practices of the airline industry that might help you:

Southwest does not charge for a checked bag

Airtran does not charge for a checked bag if you upgrade to business
class at the counter (plus you get free beverages!)

Airtran will be acquired by Southwest in the spring

Delta will charge you $50 for a checked bag, however, I have never been charged for an oversize (I did not say overweight!) bag after paying the innitial $50 check fee

I cannot speak for American or United

I think that Auburn will shoot their limit against the ducks if they play like they did Saturday.

I also have to say, Ive seen more Auburn fans come out of the woodwork in the last two or three weeks than I remember.

Ditto Neal, are you a jumper or a fighter?

I am headed to Belize this June hopefully to break the 100# silver mark

Zach, help me out with my ignorance to your locale? Im guessing some sort of sea run salmonoid?

in reply to: Canon rumors??? #71650

They seem to be on a 3 year cycle. I would like to get a 7D for a song when they upgrade it but im afraid that they will not be doing that for 1-1/2 to 2 years unless Nikon forces them to. The D300s isn’t that old though.

Im suprised to hear that you would consider leaving the 1D AF system for a 5D mkII.
