MemberSteve, I looked at the oar rights a couple times. Mentioned them to my son (the MT fishing guide) last week and he mumbled something like “learn to row” and “they have no place on a wood driftboat.” Obviously, I’m now shamed into trying to get my rubber stops back on.
Michael, I agree 100% with your son. You will be able to do a lot more strokes and be a better rower as a result.

Haha! I kept them on for my wife!
They make feathering in shallow water near impossible.
I had a set of the Premier diamond blade wood shaft oars on my skiff before I sold it and i loved them.

Member+1 for Smith Photo Copper. I cant say enough good about them for what you want to do. They are not great on open water during bright days though.

MemberI have always heard that basic bugger patterns and JJ’s were the staple since there are mostly 12-20″ browns there.
I would probably take a rig with some Koffman’s stones and san juans (aka “the turd and the worm”) as well if you like to watch the bobber.
Oh and dont forget frosty beverages

Wolf populations are down 60% since 2007. I know that Mange had taken a large toll on populations in years past, especially the druid pack that was so often in Soda butte
We can partially thank our buddy Ted for the wolves (along with effing the lower Madison to put native cutthroats back into cherry creek).
Ironically they have managed to make it into the Flying D ranch, which he owns and are taking a toll on his “pay hunt” elk herd.

MemberGreat work Stu! thanks for sharing. I really dig the Abel’s with James’ artwork on them and the brownie with the abel brownie is icing on the cake to me

MemberEvery fly shop around will give you their Biased opinion and this one is no different.
There really are not any bad rods on the market these days, but there are bad rod/line combinations and finding what works for you is where the fun begins as a consumer.
I borrowed or bought a dozen 4wts before settling on one that became my favorite and I have had a lot of fun trying new lines every year or two

MemberCool shots man! I like the stuff with ren ten ten as well. you westerners are making me sick with the scenery

MemberI really like the pelican with the dividers. figure out what size you need and go one larger would be my advice

MemberDo you think that there are relatively good odds for fish if only fishing 1 day?
From my experience, your best odds will be bright sunny days and you should do fine with bonefisn, they are plentiful in the flats. If its overcast or raining which it can tend to do in the summer, you might be better off honeymooning than fishing. 😉

MemberThanks for the offer man!
how many boxes of wine did you fit in the cooler 😉

MemberZach, I also noticed that you had written quite a chunk of that issue as well. There is also an article from board member henryc with a picture or two from board member Josh England as well.
Theres a lot of talent around here… maybe some of it will rub off on the rest of us!

MemberZach, not to steal your thunder but there was a good article from board member henryc with a picture or two from board member Josh England as well.

MemberBe sure to take plenty of orange or olive bitters in #6 & #8. I went to Turneffe last summer and that was what we used 95% of the time we bonefished. Be prepared as you will see huge schools of fish thats can really make your knees weak and if the sun is out and weather cooperates, you will have a good shot at seeing some permit.
I would also recommend taking your bride diving or snorkeling. The barrier reef is absolutely incredible

MemberMike & Gary, looks like a heck of a trip. Catching multiple fish during the day is always a good time.
I bet that rod really slings that outbound!

MemberZach, The boat looks good so far. Are you going to seadeck the inside?
I will second a foot controlled front trolling motor. Ive never had an issue with getting my line tangled and it actually allows you to fish should you decide to go solo.
I have a mid 90’s Honda 4 stroke 5hp left over from my drift boat if you are interested in getting a more reliable motor down the road
KBilcher, Dave Z is a good guy, he just built me a guitar amp! That guy knows his stuff!

MemberBig brim are dangerous to bass! At least you now know what you need to be fishing with for big bass!

MemberNice. I look forward to the mods. I’m hoping you’ll document every step. Let me know how easy/difficult it is to transfer ownership and get your decals. That process has detered me from buying another used boat and registering in GA.
Haha! Steve, I’ve told you my struggles with my old southfork skiff being an out of state boat from an out of business builder.
I currently have a used yamaha G3 jet that I bought from Kentucky and I have yet to receive my decal indicating reregistration. Once I have had a DNR official aid in me getting it after being stopped on the hooch and having a “funny you should ask” moment with him. After a year still nothing.
You bought in state it looks like so transfer should be pretty simple

Membernice ride man! looking forward to updates.

MemberMike, I have the 7wt bvk and I used it exclusively for a week of bonefishing in Belize and loved it. I have not used it yet for warm water bass but it was a killer carp and bone rod in that weight. They are very light as well and seem to be marketed as the closest to actual fly line weight of any TFO I have cast.

MemberTim, that’s a beauty! are you still squealing?
