the shad looks pretty good! I’m impressed! I have a great pond that you need to fish with me to try out these. pearl superflukes are the bomb there. I wonder how well these would do

I’m thinking about how good that would look in a shad color

in reply to: Anyone have experience on the South Fork of the Snake? #39557

Ditto July for the best fish on foam action. the SF seems to clear up faster than the snake through the park.

Any of the Jackson shops worth their weight in salt will be well versed on the SF, I would probably lean with West Bank Anglers.

Stan at the lodge at palisades creek runs a super tight ship and has a great pool of guides if you are looking for a turnkey on the river lodge.

Andrew, Looks like you’ve got their number. We’re headed to west bay/seaside friday to fish with shallow water expeditions, hopefully we can find them.

While I love catching fish on a fly as much as any, I rarely make a fishing journey without a darkside rod! After all catching fish is the main goal and getting the salt tug on a fly rod is an added bonus!

I noticed that Simms has a facebook page.

They keep some pretty good trailers rotating through there as well.

I think Cameron hit the big 7 but nothing beats getting your gear in a video or magazine picture as a backdrop to some big wet fins

I’m digging serius (spelling disabled) 99% of the time. a good bit of my fishing excursions start or end with the dead channel, unless there is a good game on

in reply to: Question about glass lenses #39516

IM DONE WITH COSTA DEL MAR! I’m still battling with them over the rubber falling off of my arms. they feel that it is a manufacturing defect but should not be covered under warranty. Getting someone on the phone over there is next to impossible and getting a return call is impossible! Zach, I don’t know if they are giving you free shades or not, but that’s my $.02 on an ongoing battle.

I sat on my Smith Guide’s choice’s and broke them in half. I mailed them back and they sent me a new pair for free, no questions asked 2 weeks later. Customer service goes a long way in my book!

I have not tried Kaenons but from what I hear, their new lens is a plastic that has the clarity of glass but is extremely impact and scratch resistant.

That streamer or “triple bunny” is a monster, talk about a fight!

thats a squirrel tail with a hook on the end!

in reply to: Question about glass lenses #39514

I have a pair of both and I have not noticed a difference in that respect.
There is a noticeable difference in clarity between glass and polycarbonate however. Smith’s Photochromatic Copper lens adjusts from light to dark conditions and is tough to beat in most freshwater situations.

Nice report, I still want to get out with you one day.

ditto on the striper trip! maybe in November

in reply to: Articulated flies #57647

Maybe I’m missing something but isn’t the goal to hook more fish? Other than to abide by a local steam ordinance, what is the purpose of removing the fish catching portion of the fly?

in reply to: Back to The Chattahoochee, after the flood #39420

Keith, if you look hard at the first picture, you can see the top of a yellow sign pulling into the park. kinda puts the depth into perspective.

    Neil,
I heard that canoe was toast! We new a couple that was supposed to get married there last weekend

    Rob Chicky here
great reply. as i was formulating the question I was thinking of ugly stick and that ad precisely. I was also thinking of fiberglass which I love on my old surf spinners for pencil popping but just cant go there with it in a fly rod, who can these days.
So…is the wall thickness of the graphite in the blank the only difference between a 5 and 10 weight?
    graci

I believe most heavy duty saltwater boat rods are graphite with a fiberglass reinforcing layer for added strength. they are not made to cast however so like zach said, there is a trade off

The madison in the park is great if you don’t mind the cold

Tim, the cutt/slide area holds a special place in my heart. I spent a lot of summer nights fishing that area and it used to be a lesser known and fished area. Kelly used to joke that you needed to wear running shoes to fish that area b/c hooked fish would run across the current and down river taking you into your backing within a matter of seconds, and it was true. I hooked and lost more 20+ inchers there than I care to remember. If you ever go back you should park at Reynolds and hike up the opposite side of the river

in reply to: Recommend Sleeping Bags #39031

You might want to consider a bag with expandable legs. I remember in years past there were manufacturers (I want to say Big Agnes) that did these.
