in reply to: sunglasses…any opinion on best? #50891

and for small creek/stream fishing, you guys think the silver mirrored or the greens are best? i do most fishing in midwest….

thanks in advance and as always!

Todd, also look at smiths photocromatic copper glass lens, they adjust from light to dark and seem to do well in low light situations. I have had a pair of guides choice in this lens for nearly 6 years and i love them.

They would not be the best choice for bright saltwater applications though i will say

I dont think that the Winston IM6 can be left out of this conversation. Or the RPLX salt water rods

I’m surprised you didnt turn this into “you need to bring the San Miguel back.”

Can you make me one through the Ross Custom Shop? If not can you warranty one that I bought used on ebay?

    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

in reply to: Ever been spooled? #50593

I got spooled by a grouper this summer in belize fishing for a cuda on a shallow reef with a spinning rod with 150 yards of braid. We would troll reefs while moving from flat to flat and it hit a cuda tube and took off all of my line in less than 10 seconds! I had zero control of the fish and it was done before i could really react.

Ive been in tulsa for a while and the Arkansas river is full of Freshwater Drum in the 1-3 pound range. Kind of a shocker the first time I caught one.

any poon is good poon but you really nailed them and those are some great shots!

in reply to: Lamson Litespeed 4 for Tarpon? #49808

Might turn out that you don’t like tarpon fishing, and then you’ve invested an awful lot of cash . . .

Good advice!  I’m learning that no matter which avenue pursued, tarpon fishing isn’t cheap.  Going rate for a Keys guide appears to be $550/day prior to any tip.  While I don’t doubt they are worth it for their knowledge and hard work, a week of guided tarpon fishing just isn’t economically feasable for me.  But I will definitely invest a day with a guide to learn some basics.

Fight a big one and land it and then decide

I broke the hook in half on a 130# tarpon on one of those, It did stay buttoned for an hour though!

Did you look at the Colton Torrent?

If I were in your shoes, I would go that route

They are made in the US and have more drag than a tibor

Urika 391?  That’s an awfully nice autoloader Adam.  In GA do you have a shell capacity limit?  Here in PA it’s three.

I got a new toy at the end of last grouse season that I’m anxious to use.  mid 1940s L.C Smith Ideal Grade 16GA.  28″ in rare mod/mod.  A buddy reloaded a couple boxes of light #7-1/2s for me for grouse.  Shoots the fake birds pretty well for me, course, I’m used to sxs double trigger setups.

I have a 12ga urika field gold that is a stud, but my wifes 20ga urika is perfect for me. My paw in law found a 20ga urika sport gold last week on a deal that is set up lefty so im going to try it out and see how i like it.

we are 3 shot only with mandatory plugs here in GA. I really only shoot the third shot if i miss the first bird on shot 1 & 2 and a second comes in before i can reload.

usually if i miss the first 2 shots on a bird, the third isnt going to do it either.

LC smith’s are great ou’s and a mod/mod config is a good setup for dove!

I may go to a pay hunt Monday

It looks like it will be a hot one and probably a tough one this year as dry as it has been.

Zach, I think you’re safe on public land from drinkers, I would worry more so about folks shooting low birds when hunting on public land.

Im sure geese are free game again here this year. they are usually open from labor day until the end of duck season

I’m looking forward to shooting a new 391 Urika 20ga. My shoulder will thank me next week

Bob, I heard about that! Im lucky in that my Gibsons are all from the 60’s.

I don’t see Gibson going overseas, they and fender are the hallmark of American guitar manufacturers.

Nice shots adam. I too am an avid guitar player. I am debating whether or not ot liquidate 3 to purchse my coveted ES335. I have wanted it for quite a while. Nice pics anyway, i especiallylike the 175.

The guy that I bought my 175 from back in 99′ had a 335 as well that my friend bought. He brought them into the store that we worked at and the the store did not need them at the time. The 175 is a 1967 and the 335 was a 1967 which we purchased for $900 each. I hung onto mine and he immediately flipped his and made $1000, however its easily a $4000-6000 guitar now and he kicks himself for selling it.
