Karlin Bilcher
MemberDave Zelinski would be enormously helpful to this conversation. The man has forgotten more about boats than most of us would ever care to know. He has faced just about every boat building, layout, materials, design, fabrication… issue imaginable. You should give him a call Zach.

Peter E.MemberQuick question. What did you do to get the measurements for he new forms that you put in?

The Itinerant AnglerI used a coat hanger to form out the bottom, then obviously measured distances, and finally I created templates using old trial displays (you can see a couple nice car wrecks in the background of my pics.) 🙂

MemberZach, The boat looks good so far. Are you going to seadeck the inside?
I will second a foot controlled front trolling motor. Ive never had an issue with getting my line tangled and it actually allows you to fish should you decide to go solo.
I have a mid 90’s Honda 4 stroke 5hp left over from my drift boat if you are interested in getting a more reliable motor down the road
KBilcher, Dave Z is a good guy, he just built me a guitar amp! That guy knows his stuff!

The Itinerant AnglerThe front is out of clamps. The foam didn’t set up until I exposed it to air, which was weird. Rear rails are clamped up now; should be cutting decks by midweek. Then it’s all glasswork.
Adam I’ll probably do grit in the paint rather than Sea Deck.

Peter E.MemberZach that is a very cool idea. I would have taken the time to loft it all out.

The Itinerant AnglerGot the buttress foam cut off smooth and the rear “box” fully clamped up at lunch. There is not a single right angle in this boat and the transom torqued about 1/2″ from side to side when it was pulled off the mold. I am going to have to do some fine work to get my decks level (completely ignoring the rails, let me tell you).

MemberAny thoughts on which Gheenoe models/lengths are suitable for this type of mod (and which are unsuitable)? I am currently exploring some shipping options for a boat advertised as a “15 foot Gheenoe” with trailer. However, unless it is suited to creating a front casting deck and a rear poling deck, and stable for standing, I would not be interested.
Thanks!

The Itinerant AnglerAaron –
Any of the 15′ or longer models can be poled.

Mike McKeownMemberWow, Zach, what, you got nothing else to do…
Man that thing is looking tit!
Can’t wait to see the end result… oh how I wish we had that thing here, I would be out right now trying to find one!Mar 8, 2012 at 1:54 pm #54680Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerI have no idea what “looking tit” means but I like it and I plan to use it from now on.
Mar 8, 2012 at 2:14 pm #54681
Mike McKeownMemberTit – general South African’ism for Good, Excellent, Nice, etc…
Usage:
Zach your boats looking tit! – Zach your boats looking good!

MemberWeird…I don’t know what you are talking about. Is that some kind of phrase that internet people use?
Mar 9, 2012 at 12:42 pm #54687Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerWaffles are just waffles man. I have a recipe for a new dry rub I want to try. I would invite you to help rub my pork butt but I know where you’d go with that so I won’t even say it.
Hahahah.
