MemberTo answer your question BD, Zach is building the world’s first $35,000 Gheenoe. The resale opportunities are not great but overall it is a worthwhile investment.

The Itinerant AnglerGot quite a bit done today and may be able to finish the glass tomorrow, but it’s going to depend on materials.

Mike McKeownMemberTit!! I just want to know how you’re gonna ship it to me when you’re done??
So this got me looking for something like this in SA… I searched for like 2 days, but found nothing that I could convert!! I am going to search our “Craig’s List” once a week.
I can’t find a Gheenoe type boat, but there are some “speed/ski” boats that might do something similar…

As soon as I can pick up more epoxy I’ll finish the glass.

What kind of tubing did you use for the rod tubes? I need to put better rod storage in my drift boat.

I’m starting to think that this guy isn’t here for the fishing related info., just all of our recipes.

The Itinerant AnglerTubing is just 2″ schedule 40 PVC. It’s very stiff in short segments, which gave us a lot of trouble.
Dry Rub is from Southern Soul BBQ on St. Simon’s Island, GA, which is the best barbecue I have ever had, seriously:
At least as shown on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the Southern Soul butt rub recipe is roughly as follows: mix one tablespoon of each of the following in a plastic bag: kosher salt, chili powder, ground black pepper, paprika, powdered garlic, powdered onion, thyme leaves, cumin. Then add two tablespoons of turbinado sugar and a cup of light brown sugar. Shake, then rub. I totally eyeballed this from a much larger recipe so who knows if it is even close to right. Oh and baste/spray liberally in apple juice while smoking. I finished mine in my oven at 225 for 5-6 hours to keep the temp constant.

MemberZach, you can bend that PVC tubing by heating it up evenly with a heat gun and bending gently.
Best Regards,
Beechy

C’mon, don’t take things the wrong way. I was just ribbing you a little bit. Obviously you have to enjoy a project like that or you wouldn’t do it.
Now, I’m the opposite – I have neither the appetite nor the aptitude for doing projects like that one. You know all too well that we don’t get much time away from the office in our business. Like you, when I have a day off, I want to spend it doing what I want to do, because that off time is so rare that it’s worth a premium. For me, that’s being on the water, playing music, or some other leisure activity. Building a boat wouldn’t do much for me.

The Itinerant AnglerOrdered Sea Dek today for the buttresses. This is the idea (the yellow foam is cut to the same size I could order, which turned out to be basically perfect).

Going to do a rope loop for the rear of the rod and some kind of strap or bungee across the SeaDek to hold it tight to the wall. That’ll keep out-of-use rods out of the way.

MemberBut geez, it’s still fun to stop and think “I get $300.00 per hour back at the office, so I’m floating in a $40,000.00 Gheenoe now,” isn’t it?

I think I need a new profession…
