MemberMichael, Bob brought up a great point with regards to tropical lines. They typically do not do well in water temps below 70 degrees, you get a slinky effect.
I like SA’s coldwater floating redfish line, and rio makes a comparable product.
On a side note, I like to hand furle a leader using this method below with 20# fluoro and add a few feet of 12# or 15# for tippet.

A standard bonefish leader will be fine thoughAdam McDowell
MemberGreat if you’re running on an Intel multi-cores Mac, but can upgrade no further with my G5 Duals. No one seems to fault Apple for abandoning their own machines. It almost seems expected.
yeah but look at the alternative, you could run a PC and be forced to upgrade every 2-3 yrs when it crashes.

MemberI have heard that GA has stocked a large number of fish this fall/winter, I would imagine that the Tennessee boys are pitching in since it is in GA but the dam is controlled by the TVA (it runs north into TN and becomes the Ocoee). I don’t feel that the Toccoa was as good of a fishery as others in the southeast. It held some large fish but could be very tough to catch and lacks formal boat ramps.
Dont get me wrong I loved fishing it, but the SoHo the Watuga and the Hooch fish much more consistent than the toccoa did.

MemberI agree Zach and that was my point also. I think an exception would be a newcomer to the sport. To them these things are like gospel.
Yeah and it pops up if you search for rod comparisons.

MemberNeither taste as good as Bald Eagle.

MemberHes running a shop and is giving you his opinon. Im certain that it is driven by his affiliation with sage and g loomis. They always seem to do better than brands not carried in his shop.
probably the same that you would get in most fly shops. they all have favorite brands that they are closer affiliated with based on business reasons. I guess its part of the game.
bear in mind, he has done these “tests” for years and to my knowledge none have been published by magazines. I think magazines steer from ranking or dogging advertisers, probably a smart decision.
He did after all help develop the 389LL & 490LL gen III rods so he cant be dogged too hard, and dave the389 is a better rod than the 490! 😉

MemberI think it probably has more to do with the hole I was fishing and the fact that I know it is always “loaded” with fish. Â LOL, they weren’t foul hooked.
Maybe you need to take me there as a test poll to see if you really have telepathic powers or if its dumb luck

MemberMike, are you still running Aperture 3? I was given PSE9 for Christmas and it crashed my 1yr old macbook pro. The apple store told me that I need more ram than the included 2G to process those huge 8.2 mb RAW files that my 2003 era 30D produces! I wanted your thoughts after using for a year. I may try to return PSE9 and pick up Aperture 3 being that it is on sale for $79 right now http://www.macworld.com/article/156914/2011/01/bundles.html

MemberThanks again for the great info! Â I really liked seeing those Pelican cases.
Anyone used the 1300? Â I know it is small, but I’m looking for something compact for the Kayak. Â Just going to put my camera, and maybe one extra lens in it for now. Â I’m intrigued by that size…
I used a 1200 for a Nikon D40 w/17-135 lens and it was snug depth wise but a great size for travel. the 1300 would probably be fine for a rebel with a lens attached

MemberI am not saying that a guide does’t deserve a bump in pay every once in a while especially if they are loyal, work hard, have repeat clients, and stick around from year to year. But the fact is a lot of them do it for a few years and move on to something else. I also think you get what you pay for so it should be fair to everyone involved.
Joel
Many of us have followed a guide from outfitter to outfitter. I know that the price of shuttles has skyrocketed in recent years as well
I forgot to mention that it seems like most of what you spend on a western guide is reinvested locally to help the overall economy

MemberI felt like $400 was the going rate for a long time out west.
From talking to my friends out there, the guides aren’t making any more than they were in the early 2000’s, but the outfitters were the ones increasing and sucking up the extra money that went into justifying $460-500 a day due to rising gas costs back in 2005-2008.
To me saltwater captains have so much more overhead than you guys so paying $500 is more justified, after all you can buy like 8 clackas for what a hell’s bay skiff costs
I do get frustrated with increased costs for “Tarpon” trips! There is much more work involved in poling for bones or reds than staking out for tarpon

MemberI was tuned into Axmen all night. What are the highlights?

MemberIt’s probably a farmed Atlantic no matter what they tell you.  😉

What flavor vino complemented it best?

MemberThanks for the feedback…that Camera Armor bag does look interesting.
Another, related question. Â I would also like to get a hard pelican case, but I would like to use the smallest one that would work for my T1i and a extra lens. Â Any experience with a favorite size pelican case?
Thanks
a 1400 should be fine. If you want to get something that you won’t have to upgrade for a while then go with the 1504 with padded dividers

MemberI did similar with a rubber band and a white sheet of craft foam. really simple but I need to try it outdoors.
Adam McDowell
MemberOnly have the 8wt and 6wt. Make me an offer if you are interested

MemberHave y’all tried amber outdoors?

Member Just how many ways can you design a shirt pocket.
;D ;D ;D
Academy sports has great fishing shirts (I believe they are labeled Magellan) for under $20 all the time. I bought a few last summer in Oklahoma and they were fine in the heatIt seems that this is probably not the best forum to advertise great off brand deals, considering many of the sponsors. However if you scour ebay a bit, there are also always clothing deals that can be had for next to nothing.
Orvis had a similar primaloft vest and jacket to the Patagonia on their site for super cheap before Christmas. to me they are similar products.
