I downloaded the trial version this week and I’m immediately impressed. This is exactly the kind of program I have been searching for. Wow!

great program for quick fixes and such, also a great way to keep things organized. Still no replacement for photoshop though 🙂

Quick fixes? Are you using version 3?

I’ve been using Aperture 3 and its a great program. Commit to it and you won’t be disappointed. I think it does 95 percent of what most photographers need as far as file management, image prep and editing and the slide show book features and web sharing are excellent.

Glad to hear someone else liked it. It’s a big improvement from 2 and with the new brushes I agree it’ll do 95% of everything I’ll be needing.

I’m loving Aperture 3. Do yourself a favor and get some Nik software plug ins. Silver efex pro is incredible.

I’ll do that thanks. One problem I’m having lately is moving folders to my external drive. I placed a bunch of folders in the trial folder and can’t seem to move them…

Well I finally got my files moved over. I just had to export on folder at a time. I sat down again with this program after a birthday party last night. I just can’t say enough good about it. If anyone is new to computer photo editing and has a Mac, GET THIS PROGRAM!

mike, i downloaded lightroom a few weeks ago (trial) and im on the fence. i have two days left so i may try the trial apeture 3 to see if it is easier to navigate. have you tried both?

    #71765

I have CS4 but not lightroom. CS4 has been a pain to learn and has more features then I usually need. A3 is so easy to pick up that I’ve all but quit messing with CS4. I can’t comment on LR but from what I’ve read the two programs are similar.

What are the key differences in A3 and LR3?

Mike, are you still running Aperture 3? I was given PSE9 for Christmas and it crashed my 1yr old macbook pro. The apple store told me that I need more ram than the included 2G to process those huge 8.2 mb RAW files that my 2003 era 30D produces! I wanted your thoughts after using for a year. I may try to return PSE9 and pick up Aperture 3 being that it is on sale for $79 right now http://www.macworld.com/article/156914/2011/01/bundles.html

I still have it and use it for some stuff (I like the skin soften brushes on A3 better) but for the most part I’ve switched over to Lightroom 3. The Noise removal on LR3 is what finally made me make the switch, it’s a clear winner in that category.
IMO Both programs are very similar but after using both I think LR is a little cleaner and better organized.

just switched from lightroom over to aperture.

Great if you’re running on an Intel multi-cores Mac, but can upgrade no further with my G5 Duals. No one seems to fault Apple for abandoning their own machines. It almost seems expected.

yeah but look at the alternative, you could run a PC and be forced to upgrade every 2-3 yrs when it crashes.
