I looked at the 2007 comparison and the G2 did well, but did get “dinged” for 45 and 70 ft. casts.  I don’t own a G2, but the unsanded blank would not bother me.

If they have trouble making 70 foot casts with the G2, they do not need to be reviewing rods in a public forum.

Bear in mind, he has done these “tests” for years and to my knowledge none have been published by magazines. I think magazines steer from ranking or dogging advertisers, probably a smart decision.

Adam, the magazines are run by very sharp individuals who are almost all excellent casters and fishermen.

I agree Zach and that was my point also. I think an exception would be a newcomer to the sport. To them these things are like gospel.

Yeah and it pops up if you search for rod comparisons.

Has anyone cast that Winston passport that did well this shootout? I know it’s imported but it sure looks interesting.

Look I think most everyone on this board realizes these types of shootouts/reviews are mostly subjective and we take them with a grain of salt. However they do introduce some of us to rods that we might not ever see.

Is it even possible to do a rod review that’s not subjective? I don’t think it is. Rods are just too personal and everyone’s casting style/stroke is unique.

    Greg,
I don’t know anything about the Winston.  As for the rest of your message all I can say you are 100% right.

To me these shoot-outs are a great way to spark debate and are a lot of fun in the dead of the Winter. Reminds of the BCS debate in college football.

Personally the way a rod feels is hard to quantify. For example the shootout loves the Z Axis and I have owned two and sold one. For me the Winston BIIX and BIIMX are so much smoother and in the case of the BIIMX more powerful. For me the Winstons and I would throw in the Scott g2 have that whole “soul” thing going on.
