I know the trout population was damaged due to the low and warm waters.

I have heard that GA has stocked a large number of fish this fall/winter, I would imagine that the Tennessee boys are pitching in since it is in GA but the dam is controlled by the TVA (it runs north into TN and becomes the Ocoee). I don’t feel that the Toccoa was as good of a fishery as others in the southeast. It held some large fish but could be very tough to catch and lacks formal boat ramps.

Dont get me wrong I loved fishing it, but the SoHo the Watuga and the Hooch fish much more consistent than the toccoa did.

A thread entitled “Toccoa River info. and update” from october of 2010 on http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ngto/ summarizes the public forum held by TVA, and GADNR. There are also many more threads on NGTO that discuss the issues related to the lake Blue Ridge dam repair.

The repairs include oxygenators which should greatly improve the fishery in years to come.

Is Georgia going to put in any special regulations to protect the stockers, so they can spawn and set up wild trout?

    John –

NGTO has been a great resource for info on this issue.

    John –

NGTO has been a great resource for info on this issue.  I doubt they put in any kind of slot limit; the Toccoa is a sort of semi-touchy area from a regulations standpoint, because technically it isn’t actually a navigable waterway under current Georgia law.  Everyone has been pussyfooting around that issue and proceeding as normal, but don’t look for the DNR to do anything that would be in any way controversial on that tailwater.

    Touchy is right!

Sounds like the Jackson River up here in Virginia, great tailwater, but no one is allowed on it.
I enjoyed fishing the Toccoa in August of 2006, it reminded me of smaller version of the South Holston tailwater, but still with nice, wild brown trout.

Unlike on, say, the South Holston, large swathes of which are actually owned by the TVA, as far as I know TVA only owns the dam site and maybe Tammen Park.
