    HYPHENS KILL…

The web is hard. I can make left-aligned design read like a dream on a printed page, same with justified. I just hate justified because it takes so much manual time to make it look really perfect – which makes the gaps really pop for me) I changed from a full width web page to a fixed width just because the type was driving me crazy. I need to get past the type issue on the web and just keep rolling with the real reason for web design. I could be annoying and make a complete flash site that is really slow but looks the way I want.

Your new design looks great. I like it.

Zack, It Looks great. Don’t let them sway you on changing your site. I understand, my site has changed twice since I launched a month ago and it is finally settling in and now I am just tightening up the css and typography. (not a fun task). I like the clean brightness.

The only thing I see is really nitpicky and in the sidebar. The space between the headers and the links seems to be to much or equal top and bottom. It can be hard to determine what goes with what. Extra space before and a little less after would fix it.

Didnt you know – those Aussies are upside down and even the water in their toilet spins another direction.

David – What kind of car is this?

Those old Willies are about as sweet as it gets. I can see your boat behind that old Willy.

Old Land Cruisers, Land Rovers, Broncos, Scouts… all tops in my book.

Thanks Guys. Horseshoe Bend was where I fished yesterday. It is perfect for learning and open enough to make casting fun. That is why I would like to take my Wife and Dad.

Most of the places that I fish are filled with cover so it is hard to get into getting hung up on every cast. After teaching Dad the water haul… he is becoming an old pro on the small stream.

I’ll stop by Unicoi. I hate stopping by because i usually do not buy anything.

    You

Put a girl-y color (read pink, purple, etc.) on technical or terminal gear made for women, and you will never get my money.  Cut it to fit women, PLEASE (as in waders and coats made for hips, a waist, and breasts), but by all means go ahead and make it in the same colors as the guys’ gear.  I want to be seen on the river as someone who fishes who happens to be a woman; I don’t want my technical/terminal gear to scream that I’m a woman from 300 yards.  This color preference mostly extends to just the technical stuff (as in, I don’t want my waders or rain coats, rods, reels, or lines colored to suit the “female taste,” whatever that means).

How about Simms? My wife has an issue with her waders being a different color than mine. It is not a “girl-y color” but she still has issue with it. This is actually a good discussion to send to each of these manufacturers.

Another issue. Many fly shops just do not carry the wears for the ladies, even when the manufacturers create it. The overstock at the end of the season does not warrant keeping it in stock. My wife and I have discussed opening an Online “Fly Ladies” website just to hit the demographic.

Is that guy seriously wearing bright yellow crocks?

I think I saw him on an escalator at the airport.

I will never let my G go.  I even had a second tip made for it as an insurance policy.

I lost mine in a fire but all is well. I would buy another G if I found it but I would get something really light not the 5wt that I had. Scott reintroduces rods each year so it will come back around. The G2 is a sweet rod.

I do not know why I cannot get excited about the Sage Rods. I know they make a great rod and many folks love em but personally I am just not a fan – I am the same about Orvis. I do like that new funkadelic green, but it doesnt make me think fly fishing for some reason.

poor poor old Ross Reel hat. That is like kind of like introducing a puppy to the family dog.

Retired head wear could be a thread all it’s own. 🙂

Cameron – That hat is a Joel Special.
(How many shoes can you get in that box? 🙂 )

Of course, my primary fishing rod is a Scott G2, which I analogize to a one-eared German Shorthair: ugly til you see it in action.
    Zach

Amen brother. I think the G2 maybe a German Wirehair – an all around versatile dog. But my new G2 is my favorite rod as well, my Winston (an English Setter) lost it’s home in my truck to the G2  – but I am quickly falling in love with my wife’s Scott S4 = a fit, well run English pointer.

I miss my Scott G but the G2 is a better all around rod.

and “Fly-Fishing the High Country” and “Fly-Fishing Small Streams” are still my all around favorites. Instruction with humor is a great thing.

There may need to be a little more of this style of writing in the magazines. It is fun to read, easy to learn from and remember. It is also the only articles that I tend to discuss with people… That may say a little something about a shunned style of writing.

Signs of Life is the title and it is an interesting read if you did not know that it existed. It is not quite what you would expect. He mentions it in one of his books as well but I cannot remember which book for sure. (it might have been this last book but the stories kind of blend together) Motel Thoughts is also an interesting read, it really shows the start of his style.

I used to own the books in question – They were gifts from my wife. At one point in my life, I had all the Geirach first editions in hard back. I will not do that again but that is another story altogether that you all have heard.

The first and second are two of my favorite shots. The “Gift” one at the end is going to become Christmas cards.

Shutter speed to about 1 second. Anything longer than that – I can not hold and keep still. I have not checked the aperture but I always look to see how long the shutter speed is. I really need to start recording the settings as a learning  tool or dig into the data. It would also do me well to purchase the tripod for the ability to relax and find all the details. I kind of like the idea of shooting it in hand.

Many times when I find the right neon – it is in a place where I am kind of scared to break out all the equipment.

This has been fun getting to know everyone on this message board.

I use to be an Art Director but the boss really got to me so I had to say good bye. I have worked in large Ad Agencies to small Design firms but there has always been something missing.

Not much to really expound upon.

I point and shoot and hold very very still. I do pry myself against something if I can. This doesn’t work much of the time but the shots that do, look pretty cool. It is fun with the digital age because I use to waste roll after roll of film even with a tripod. Now I can play.

We have new art for the mantel. (Or a way to harass my wife). I am still looking for the gun but I know what I am going with. This trophy was the original intent for post. It makes me laugh.

I’ve basically been shooting from the hip (hand held and trusting the camera). I know that I should be using a tripod which would clean it up a little. I was just curious if any of the folks here shoot many night light shots.

    I appreciate the kind words.

    Bob. Welcome.

I tend to post more here than on my home site.

For those folks that would like to practice their writing skills and do not have a home on the web, a site of their own or just do not feel secure enough to start sending to magazines. Feel free to come over to my site and submit anything you would like. I am trying to keep it lifestyle oriented and fun but there is definitely a place for you to start practicing getting the content out there. There is no money involved but it can be great practice. If you would like an assignment sort of thing, I have a large list of people that would make great interviews for spotlighting their skills.

This is for all of those articles and or things that might not quite fit the printed word of the magazines. It is sort of set up like the minor leagues in baseball and hopefully scouts will begin looking. I am not a writer and or never claim to be one. I just try to make it look good, which is my strength in the profession. If anyone had writing questions or photography questions, I’ll direct them here because this is where I would go and I have respect for everyone on this board.

I am also in the process of collecting the information for people to submit work to all the major magazines. Just for the case if someone submits something to my site and it needs to go further – I will not publish it and will try to help get it to the next level of the food chain.

I am looking for fishing, food, travel, music, and local people who do great things. If anyone is up to it, please come on over.
