Dusty. It would work but it still wouldnt fit my bill in length. I was looking for something in the 6ft range as a 5 wt. Chucking streamers and crawdads in the tight rhododendrons was killing me. I built a graphite 5wt that was 7ft and it was still a little long for the scrambling that I tend to do. It worked but… I wanted to see if there was a better solution for what I was trying to do. Glass was the answer.

The Glass actually slings the streamer better than the tighter graphite with the shorter rods. The six foot rod is more than sweet when dealing with all the snag hazards and I can still properly present a tiny dry. If I get to an open area I can still fish with the rod in hand rather than switching out or even carrying a second rod (which is why I just do not like 3 wts and less) I could have went with a 4wt but the majority of what I do is with a 5wt so I didnt want a whole new line setup due to just being practical. I already have a weight forward, double taper and a sinking line in the 5wts and they stay spooled in my pack.

I am not a glass fanatic but I did want all the southeatern guys know that there is a rod setup that is close to perfect for our tight streams. The main rod manufactuers do not make them so it has to be searched for a little. Glass and Bamboo are a better solution when looking at shorter rods.

PLUS… It is less expensive that the Helios…

“Do you find the new version to be any easier to use (perhaps more intuitive?) or is your enthusiasm mostly feature related?”

I am on a Mac… a bunch of different macs. It is still the same old photoshop and to add features to it probably makes it more “Less” user friendly. I have been using PS since ’89 so again it is hard to say. because i know what is new and what is old. I have not seen a dramatic slow down if any – but again it is hard to say with my machines. They are all maxed out with ram which is where photoshop usually takes from the computer.

I am digging the adjustment presets and adjustment layers has been worked on quite a bit and the new masking options. I havent really played with the 3d stuf but we will see how it works.

Strengthening two brands at once. It is good for both companies. They could have done an exclusive “Cabelas” Rod that did not have the Sage name on it. It would have sold a quarter of what it will with the Sage Name.

It is all about branding and business decisions. Sage is kind of getting into the “North Face” category where they are a little more about the business, brand and the money and a little less about quality. They make great blanks but the full rods in my opinion are not anything special. The wraps are shotty and the hardware is well…

(like North Face – who use to have the best of everything they do but now it is the Gucci of the outdoors)

I figured that was the real reflection. It just looks off to me for some reason. I am not sure about a plan of attack for that – if any. Maybe play with scale and skew of the reflection only or leave it

Mike… You’ve got it goin on – That is a sweet setup.

    LEAD BREAD

Makes (1) 8.5”x4.5”x2.5” loaf or (3) 5.75”x3.5”x2” loaves Which I use or 18 standard muffins

    Ingredients:
    1 1/4 C 7 grain cereal
    1/4 C unbleached flour
    1/2 C wheat germ
    3/4 C bran
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 C buttermilk
    2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 C honey (more or less depending on how sweet)
1/4 C molasses (more or less depending on how sweet)
(I’ll also use all honey or molasses depending what is in the pantry)
(if going sweet I add a little vanilla and or little cinnamon to change it up a little)

Cameron, Knowing you were raised on white bread, You keep surprising me with your southern chow. Pickled Okra rocks, but I have never seen it in the pickled pigs feet pink – and I’ve never carried it on a fishing trip. That’s awesome.

Bill Webster… are you in Florida? I ask because of the Liver Sausage comment. Growing up my grandfather would make what he called Scrapple or Liver Pudding and would eat it with breakfast or on sandwiches like what you mentioned. I can eat it but I could not say it is a favorite.

    Mike… Awesome

    1.

    KP & Cameron,
There you two go again about glass! What do you do when you are on a tailwater and need to reach out and touch a southern Striper 50+ feet away? Do they have the backbone to put the hurt on the fish when it is time to pull them out of a patch of hydrilla or from under a stump?
    Just askin’?

Dusty, Honestly I have not tried a heavier weight glass rod. It does have the backbone to pull the big fish out of places like you are talking about but like Cameron said… It might be a very heavy rod. These things are not light little noodles that you might think – That is why I do not like anything less than a 4 wt. I am not giving up on My Graphite rods, I just think everyone who hits the small tight streams might want to take a “Serious” look at glass. The two are made for each other like Peanut Butter and Chocolate.

Wind would be another issue for myself. I like the faster rods to cut the wind and if I am working a larger sort of normal everyday stream, you would see me with my Scott G2 or if windy the S4. And the fishing that you are talking about, I would be fishing my S4 9 wt.

Feast of Snakes by Harry Crews

If you like strange tales about the southern life, Harry Crews is the man for you. It is not a read for everyone but I am the type that likes good macabre stories about the sub southern culture.

Classic Crews: A Harry Crews Reader. is a good starter for Crews and it is easy to find.

This movie is kind of like watching a Crews Novel.

Instead of screening over the product try either masking it to make it pop a little more or change the screen to multiply. Mask out the texture to get the detail and contrast of the reel. It is a good direction but make the product shine like they said. The balance is a little off from top to bottom (a little to much space on the bottom and the reflection looks off) ALSO, what color is the reel? that is another selling point.

Another thought is to darken the whole thing to give it an “Edgier” feel. I had an old creative director who use to see stuff like this and say “Are you selling Panties? – Make a Man want it.”

    It is the right direction

Cameron… Who carries your pack brother? That is more than I will eat for lunch or dinner on a normal day. Great stuff. Dukes Mayo is a Southern thing, but we do Blueplate because Dukes can be hard to find in Atlanta. Not far apart.

I carry a little stove on cold days with a little french press because there is not much that compares with fresh pressed coffee and good homemade granola on the stream. A perfect cold pick me up.

Zach… That sucks and the wet and the cold are hard to deal with. I will give a shout out to the folks who rebuilt my house and work on Insurance work. If you are in the Atlanta Area and you have a house claim of any type, these folks do things right… Southeast Restoration – 770-345-3500. All they do is insurance work and the owner (Ben) is a fly fisherman. It is always hard to find someone especially when you feel desperate when looking at the mess. I have no stake in this Company but they are the best group of folks I have ever dealt with. I could go on and on about how good of a job they do.

    http://www.southeastrestoration.com/

The mold thing is crazy how it spreads. After our fire, I would walk the house daily and I could almost document how fast the earth was taking back the house. I say this because I believe it is sort of a testament on how quickly the Planet can heal itself after the messes we as humans may cause. Only if we humans would let the earth do its own thing… Sorry, I started preaching a little.

    Pablo-

I don’t think people here will much care who you are.  Hope that doesn’t burst your bubble.  We use our real names because it keeps things civil and personable (a kindergarten even) and prevents anonymous flame-outs.  I don’t think you should be concerned that anyone will treat you differently if you reveal your name.  (Unless you are, in fact, the reincarnation of Lee Wulff, then I’m sure you will receive a lot of questions).  We’re all just fishermen here.

The policy of not going by a ‘net handle was certainly in place when i joined the forum.  If you missed it when you signed up, I’m sure Zach can send a reminder.

    Your cooperation will be appreciated!

    Regan

    Bump…

Have to agree. Even Lee Wulff would post here and be well respected. It will be easier for everyone to respond and give the respect.  Give us a name or go away and hide (which is all you are presently doing – without gaining much respect).

I also received the email but it is out of my budget and I do not know how I was on the list. One of the great things about this sport is NO ONE knows it all and yes there are greats and I would call many of them masters but they too would tell us that they are humbled by the the fish and the stream on a daily basis.

I am thinking about getting some blanks but also looking at the TL Johnson Fly Rods because they too are beautiful. I am signed up for a jewelry class with my wife with the intent of making my own reel seats… but we’ll see how that goes.
