I am looking for good places to wade on the Toccoa because I do not have a boat. Any suggestions? I would like to take my dad and my wife so they have a river they can cast a little.

I was up there today and fish were rising all around me and I could not get them to take. There were some cream colored midges coming off but they were not taking the falls and I saw one lonely caddis. I tried the usual nymphs (pheasant tail, prince, hares ear, copper johns) and dries but only 2 little stockers and they were caught on a stimulator.

Kevin, while there is a lot of good wading water on the Toccoa tailwater, there are only 3 public access points which are about 5 + or – miles apart.

    Kevin,

Save yourself some grief and stop by Unicoi Outfitters in downtown Blue Ridge. Ask Julian or Metrela what pattern you should use to match that little cream colored midge. I bet they’ll have the answer. They can also advise on the wadeable areas.

    Kevin…
Unicoi in Blur Ridge is a good suggestion. We took our first fly fishing lesson from those guys about 3 years ago…so this addiction is ALL their fault! David Hulsey is the manager there now and a great guy. Our favorite wadeable place on the Toccoa is Horseshoe Bend Park in Mccaysville.

Thanks Guys. Horseshoe Bend was where I fished yesterday. It is perfect for learning and open enough to make casting fun. That is why I would like to take my Wife and Dad.

Most of the places that I fish are filled with cover so it is hard to get into getting hung up on every cast. After teaching Dad the water haul… he is becoming an old pro on the small stream.

I’ll stop by Unicoi. I hate stopping by because i usually do not buy anything.
