Thanks for all the nice thoughts and great ideas all. I think I will be going with the motion sensor cameras put in hard to get to places around the cabin. We are 15 miles out of town on a VERY bumpy road, we have only a small solar panel that keeps a 12volt battery charged, and all of our lights are propane.
It took my wife about 7 hours to get things back in shape yesterday, but it is livable once again.
Clint keep those ears open for the whispers in the hall.

Zach the snake would be great water to teach the women how to row! Trust me, teaching Lauren how to row would be the greatest thing you have ever done in your life! 😉 I taught my wife how to row three years ago and it was the greatest move I have ever made! She actually enjoys it quite a bit and it gives us both equal (ok almost equal) fishing time. It is a great way to spend time with your spouse.

Why not rent two drift boat that are set up for singles in the front and the back. Four people in a boat is a huge pain. I see them from time to time on the Missouri and they are set up with two fisherman in the front and one in the back. The guides rowing these boats look miserable. In the guiding industry there is a $100 up charge to add that third seat and that is for a reason. It just plain sucks! I have only had to do it once and I had two little kids in the front of the boat and their dad was in the back. It was the longest day ever!
Just my thoughts but I would consider getting two boats instead of one just to make your experience a more enjoyable one.

Billy if you are thinking about getting into guiding because you don’t want to get a “real” job then you should rethink it as guiding is very much a real job. I think Scott nailed it though with his post. It is all about people skills and communication skills. Some of the best fisherman I know would make terrible guides because they lack the people skills needed. You have to have something to fall back on when the fishing is slow so being a good conversationalist is very important. There will be days you will have to work your ass off just getting someone on a fish and then there are days that you will never have to change a fly because the bite is on.
I think I enjoy fishing more now then before I was a guide. I appreciate every good cast, every good drift, and every single fish I catch because I know that not everyone is capable of doing that.

Tim, I wish I had a great story to go along with the photo but it is actually kind of boring. I teasing brown trout along a deep rip rap bank and popped my bugger up about six inches on the bank and pulled it back into the water and must have hooked the dragon fly in the process. It was a perfect hook set though! I got him dead center in the abdomen and on a barbless hook too!

Some interesting stuff here. I have been wanting to become a CCI as well but find it difficult to find the time when the weather is a little more permitting as I am usually guiding during that time. I hooked up with a CCI last year who is also a Fishing Outfitter and we quickly became friends. Now after reading all of this stuff I am confused to whether or not I could become certified.

I am a fishing Outfitter (Montana Troutaholic Outfitters) and director of outdoor activities for Rock Creek Cattle Company in Deer Lodge MT. Though my outfitting company is seperate from RCCC I guide almost exclusively for them. RCCC ( http://www.rockcreekcattlecompany.com) is a high end private club and community that is an absolutely amazing place to work. My office is the outdoors in a beautiful part of western Montana. I spend most of the time I am not guiding planning peoples activities when they visit the ranch. It is pretty easy to please people if they are into the outdoors at all. The ranch is an 80,000 acre working cattle ranch that has an abunance of Elk, Deer, Big Horn Sheep, Wolf, Coyotes, Eagles, Hawks, Bears, Moutain Lion….basically a little bit of everything! Nothing beats the smile on someones face when you get to show them one of those creatures for the first time! I spend about 75 days a year taking clients fishing and the rest of the time taking them on guided hikes, mountain bike rides, ATV rides and fun stuff like that.
I am a fifth generation Montanan. I have been married for 17 years to my lovely wife Debbie. We have no kids just a big yellow lab named Riley.
Prior to working for RCCC I worked for UPS in Missoula MT for 17 REALLY LONG YEARS!!!

I second the Beretta 391 KP. The guys who run Flint Oak in Kansas (a big time hunting club with clays and birds) have both steered me in the direction of this gun and both of them know their stuff when it come to guns and shooting stuff out of the sky. I am in the process of buying this gun myself. Just looking for the perfect deal…. 🙂
