I’m with Mike, must be a Tennessee thing 😀 I have the Cabela’s jacket and another thing I like is, it’s one of the few that comes in tall sizes.

in reply to: Harrison Steeves III, patterns #55621

I took quite a few of Mr. Steeves patterns with me to Yellowstone, I like the way they look but to be honest, I didn’t get a bite on them. Only bluegill back in Tennessee with them so far.

Anyone have success with his patterns?

in reply to: Harrison Steeves III, patterns #55620

I don’t own alot of “pattern” books, but I do this one and I like it. Until this year, I’ve always been a fur and feather kind of guy. Lots of foam flies are going with me to Yellowstone.

    Zach,

What size was the fly you used to catch the Cuttie? I’m going to take a popper to Yellowstone with me to try, some of the

    in reply to: Hunting #18844

Was “born” with a gun in my hands as were my children, don’t hunt as much as I use to, last deer season I looked out the window and there were 31 whitetail in my yard/riverbottom. It takes away from the “experience”.

Wife, has a Mountain Fiest tree dog, will put him on squirrels this fall after the leaves die off, that is if he’s not to spoil to get out of her lap ;).

I was into Woodcock hunting a few years ago, had a really good setter. The dog died, blew out my left knee and I sold my 28 gauge Parker.

I’m a trapper at heart, take it by spells, some years I trap some I don’t, but when I do I really get in tune with nature, more so than with a flyrod. But angling gets most of my attention ;D Look where I’m at now.

Maybe I’ve been lucky or blessed, but of the 6 times I’ve been out to the stone, them fish act like they haven’t had nothing to eat in weeks.

in reply to: 3rd Meadow of Slough Creek trip…. #17993

I’ve walked into the second meadow twice, not a bad walk, but I constantly live at 700′ not 7000 ish 😉 so either get in super shape or be prepared to possibly get winded a time or two.

My daughter and I did it 3 years ago the end of July. Even if you don’t catch no fish, which I’d think would be hard to do the scenery will blow you away.

I’d like to fish the canyon between the first and second meadows.

I think it’s according to who, when and how they fell on a given day, I stopped by the airport in Nashville three times (go by it on the way to either my sister-in-law or BassPro) and went to the counter of the carrier I had tickets for, got a different answer each time. Had them in DB Dunn cases and took them on without any questions. But I’d have them ready to check incase you run onto a *****.

count me in if you still have a need.

What dates will you be in our fair state? I work Friday-Sunday, am usually off Monday-Thursday, I also 100% wade but have a Jon boat and a 12hp Mud Buddy long tail to get me away from the access points (which are getting fewer) so I can have solitude.

Let me know if I can be of service to you. I live on the banks of the Elk.

in reply to: If you were offered a drift boat…. #10349

Since I live on the Elk, I’d say thanks but no thanks, but if I could take it and sell it, then I would take it and get a Gator Trax-Duck Skiff.

I’ve seen a few Drifters on the Elk in low water, and I always wonder what they are thinking, (personal opinion) very slow water, when TVA generates the river gets up around 8 feet, no inbetween on the Elk, either low or high.

I have an old beat up 14′ Jon with a Mud Buddy Hyper 12hp long tail mud motor and think I have the best set up for my usage. I swing it around into boat and drift and fish, either in or out of boat.

I’m off when 99% of the working class are at work, need a way to get up and down the river, (wife is at work also, so can’t get a shuttle)
