Gore-Tex!
I’d be hesitant to buy the $350+ made in China stuff. If your gonna buy made in china stuff go with something affordable like Cabelas Gore Tex wading jacket. I still love mine after 4 years now.
I have the L.L. Bean Rapid River wading jacket and love it. A whole lot of bang for the buck.

The Nik http://www.risingfish.net/Nikita.html by rising fish isn’t a true wading jacket more of a wading rain coat but the interesting thing is it has a wet suit gasket at the wrist that is trimmed to fit you wrist size and is waterproof even when putting your hand underwater it doesn’t breath well but it is waterproof……

Sounds like you’re in the same category as I am with thin wrists/forearms. I absolutely loathed my Simms G3 Jacket, hands down the worst fishing jacket I’ve ever owned (the cuffs were only one of the reasons…). I spent a very wet summer in that jacket.
It sounds like you’re really concerned about the cuffs, in that case, I’d suggest the Patagonia Stretch SST. The cuff system works really well, I can ratchet it down and keep my lower arms dry for short periods of immersion – without having to cut off blood flow. Can’t ask for much more than that.
The Classic Guide is a sweet wading jacket, but is really lacking in the cuff system in comparison with the SST. It does have built in zingers though. I hate having to add my own onto the Patagonia jacket.

Ian I’m Pretty sure Simms still has a few made here. But my point is why pay US made prices for Chinese goods that are probably made by the same children that make the cheaper ones? I was looking for a new one this year myself because I got battery acid on my old one (still doesn’t leak!) and I ran across a couple for almost $400! I thought surely for that price I’m buying American right,,, wrong! Made in China.
Yea I have a problem with everything getting outsourced to a child and slave labor communist country while prices remain the same or go up for Pete’s sake. I’m fed up with paying damn good money and getting a piece of CRAP. But that’s a political topic so I’ll refrain.
I ran across a couple for almost $400! I thought surely for that price I’m buying American right,,, wrong! Made in China.
The G3 is a perfect example of this.
I have a Filson waxed cotton jacket. The plain truth is that it is not as good as gore-tex. But it smells cool. And it looks cool. And it works well enough. And it would stop a bullet – let alone briar and barbed wire. And I love it.
Ah, waxed cotton. It’s kinda like single malt scotch, and cuban cigars, and bamboo fly rods, and the sound of a flushing grouse and the crack of a 28 gage SXS in the cool autumn air, and the feel of a fresh run steelhead hitting a streamer. A warm fire before bed, a down sleeping bag to cuddle up in, and elk to sing you to sleep. It’s a good life if you don’t weaken.

Patagonia makes a few stuff in the US, but indeed most is made overseas.
Patagonia has amazing customer service, second to none.I need to watch out nothing walk like a Patagonia advertisement board but I just love their stuff. Great performance and great designs as well.

I only own a few products made by Patagonia.
I am not too familiar with the Patagonia Fly Fishing line, but I do own quite a few products from the climbing/mountaineering line.
Ian thanks for the tip. I will give the SST a look. The cuff’s are paramount for me, or else its just a rain jacket. With that in consideration I really don’t mind spending the extra 40%.
I’m on board with the overpriced complaint though…there is nothing worse than going into your local REI to watch some dude spend (or get convinced to spend) $400 on a four season tent that he’s going to use twice a summer with his wife and kids. There are a lot of products out there that are worth the money, and a lot that aren’t. There are a lot of people out there that use these products to their fullest potential, but even more that don’t. Just don’t buy the stuff if you are in one of the latter two categories because it makes it all more expensive for those of us that actually use/need it.
Its pretty disappointing to hear such bad reviews on the G3 Jacket. That pretty much makes it (in my eyes) a $400 rain jacket with some zingers glued to the front.
Bob. I’ve got a filson vest. It has a pocket just for pocket watches. It also is very cool.

I’m with Mike, must be a Tennessee thing 😀 I have the Cabela’s jacket and another thing I like is, it’s one of the few that comes in tall sizes.
