How did you get a deal like that?

    Zach

Just kept looking, that’s all. We did have to re-wire the trailer lights, nbd. it also has the storage cover. Good deals are out there, heck it was cheaper than some, singe person, pontoon boats.

I’m going to slip in a vote for the low-sided, tunnel-hull Clacka. I live in Northern California and fish a lot with Dave Roberts (probalby the best Upper Rogue River fly fishing guide) and his tunnel hull blows me away.

You lean on the sticks and the boat just stops. Plus I can stand off-center on the thing and not screw up the handling overmuch. You could square dance in the back.

Keep in mind the rivers out here are a tougher float than the tailwaters I’ve seen in TN, though the Hiwassee isn’t exactly a walk in the park. The manueverability of the Clacka might not be as important as getting through skinny water, which is when a raft might not be a bad idea.

Getting in and out of the low-sided boat is a dream compared to the taller boats.

    Good luck!

I talked with our local TWRA warden yesterday and asked about his boat.

    About the Riverhawk boats..

Would an aluminum jon boat with the same beam as the B60 be just as stable?

National Geographic Adventure magazine ran a story last month on a guy running Baja California trips out of San Diego (about 200 miles) on a US Navy style zodiac.

Seems like it would be more rock resistant than fiber glass for sure.

Other than one canoe, I have no small boat experience.  All of my previous boats have been big, heavy, high horsepower bass boats. Great fishing platforms. No good on the Duck, Harpeth, Caney, Elk.

I have never been near the dam on the Caney or the Elk when they are generating.  Are the conditions like those at Cordel Hull or Old Hickory?

If so, I don’t think I would like being in that small of a boat anywhere near the dam. Call me chicken, but that kind of water even rocks those big center console boats like TK and TimM have. Makes me just a little nervous when we are up there catching bait or drifting for schoolies.

    Bump to top.

    Anyone?

    Anyone at all?

The Caney is not as bad as Cordell or Old Hickory during generation – there’s just not as much water coming through.

bd, Mike, thanks for the follow up. Very informative.

Not sure what I’m going to do, or when for that matter.

Thanks for the test drive offer too Mike.

I bought a BBW boat in May and couldn’t be happier with it.

Since I live on the Elk, I’d say thanks but no thanks, but if I could take it and sell it, then I would take it and get a Gator Trax-Duck Skiff.

I’ve seen a few Drifters on the Elk in low water, and I always wonder what they are thinking, (personal opinion) very slow water, when TVA generates the river gets up around 8 feet, no inbetween on the Elk, either low or high.

I have an old beat up 14′ Jon with a Mud Buddy Hyper 12hp long tail mud motor and think I have the best set up for my usage. I swing it around into boat and drift and fish, either in or out of boat.

I’m off when 99% of the working class are at work, need a way to get up and down the river, (wife is at work also, so can’t get a shuttle)

Me and my father bought a star raft in the spring.
