Hi Zach, good choice.
From what I read, the dynamic range of the D600 is very good as is it’s high ISO image quality.
The fact it’s full frame and 24 mp’s will mean it’s not forgiving of poor technique, but that, IMHO makes us work harder to get great shots and better photographers.🙂

I have an LL Bean Pac lite Gor-tex jacket for stuffing in the pack on a nice day and one of their Pro Gor-tex jackets for the cold.
Both are nice, but the Pac-lite is exceptional for the money IMHO.
Also, FWIW, both now come in a tall sizes..Negatives –

I love the look of some of the small P&S gear coming out and the quality lenses as well.

I’ve got the drycreek rolltop and its been excellent.Not sure about the current crop of bags, but past experience with ‘waterproof’ zippers would make me nervous with camera gear inside.

It’s not uncommon for new models to have glitches and generally they’re fixed pretty quick with a firmwear update.
That said, I wouldn’t but a new camera till after Photokina because there’s lots of new stuff announced this time of year.
Also, if you decide you want the 800, Nikon will have had a bit of time to iron out any bugs.I have to admit it, even as a fully inducted Canon man, the D800e is a very tempting prospect.

I LOVE that I can have fast AF, Full Frame, very low noise, and amazing IQ, in such a small package. It’s very nice to not have a cinder block around my neck…
That’s it’s #1 selling point IMHO when compared to the 1 series…
I’m very tempted to swap out the 1’s for the 5DIII (or similar), but as ever, what might be around the corner is the big question.Nice shots BTW..

It just cracks me up that in David’s world the D800 is a “light” camera. 🙂 “Why, you don’t even need an assistant to carry it!” Hahahah.
Well, compared to a medium format of something like the DSx/1Ds3 they would be fairly portable – and I am getting fairly old.. 😀

One consideration is that some of the D800 users are finding that the lenses (some of them) that worked fine on the 12-16mp bodies aren’t up to capturing the resolution that a 36mp sensor can capture. Don’t know if a 24mp body will “best” that 12-24 lens or not.
I like the thought of a light camera like the Nikon D800 with so much resolution, but it is going to tax the hell out of the lenses and be VERY unforgiving of poor shooting skills. 😮

The camera goes from working fine one minute to being completely dead.
If you’ve tried more than one battery and charger then the problem would surely have to be in the camera.
Would agree with sending it to Nikon..

Have you checked out that your charger is 100% ?
I’ve never personally had a problem with a camera draining batteries to quick, but have had a charger fail.
(years ago – batteries and chargers are much better now)Also, a brand new battery will take a few charge/discharge cycles to get to full capacity.

(pictures much appreciated as well ;))Hadn’t considered the framed boats because of weight and my near fatal lack of talent when reversing trailers is required :-[ though the idea of the boat being ready to go has appeal..
