Does anyone else own this Nikon camera body? I am hearing grumblings that there are “problems.” I think there’s already a firmware update, and a friend has had both of his go down – one due to firmware and one some kind of broken knob. I guess I need to get busy using mine to get over a growing case of buyer’s remorse!

My dad has one, supposedly there is an issue with one of the focal points (I think on the left side) not working properly.

Some of the cameras were produced with a mis-programmed left focus sensor. Checked mine and it’s fine. You can find more info here on Thom Hogan’s site:

Don’t worry Shannon, any remorse will fade once you see the unbelievable resolution of your new camera. It still amazes me every time I use it.

Regarding the D600, yes, it’ll be almost as great. 24mp, prolly smaller & lighter (w/o 100% viewfinder), less robust body, no focus screw so no autofocus with non AFS lenses, and a 10mp DX mode. Available to buy sometime in early 2013. Excellent!

    Doug –

I think most of the rumors are the D600 will keep the focus screw, though of course that remains to be seen.

    PS –

This is probably a Photoshop job, so take it with a huge grain of salt, but if it happened to be real, there is a screw visible.

It’s not uncommon for new models to have glitches and generally they’re fixed pretty quick with a firmwear update.
That said, I wouldn’t but a new camera till after Photokina because there’s lots of new stuff announced this time of year.
Also, if you decide you want the 800, Nikon will have had a bit of time to iron out any bugs.

I have to admit it, even as a fully inducted Canon man, the D800e is a very tempting prospect.
