The flaw in the Apple model is they don’t value the content, just the delivery.

Itunes and Ipods are great, no question, but what they’ve done to the mainstream music industry

Iphoto is fairly quick, but I just use a system of folders from jobs or trips that are done by date.

Bridge in Photoshop CS is a good editing program and an easy way to keep things organized.

Thanks for the test Matt – looking forward to checking out the video.

For the record, I think the only gear I would truly trust for submersion and camera gear is from Pelican, but lugging one around is a real drag unless you’re on a boat.
I was interested in the LL Bean pack for protecting gear from the rain, so it may yet fit the bill..

William Joseph still have a waterproof pack coming out and that may be worth a look as well – though one wonders when it’s coming because the website has said ‘coming soon’ forever..

    That’s better again..
Hard to put a finger on it exactly, but dark water vs. the snow is what stands out..

I think it might be time to visit the Holga shop in Sydney.. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    That’s cool Brian..

I really dig what you do with the Holga’s – it’s a very different look from the digital stuff.

Mike, I have a 300 F4 IS L and it’s a great lens, very light and quick to focus and very sharp even wide open.

    Highly recommended.

ย I don’t mind banter about rugby, everyone knows the All Blacks are the world’s best anyway.

Yep, they have the exact same number of Rugby World Cups as the Americans.

    1.

    (Australia has 2 BTW ;))

Will drop you a PM when we have some dates in mind..

The real standout lenses in the Canon line-up are all primes (IMHO).

The 100 macro – wither model is awesome.
The 50 is a sharp lens, but has a slow focus motor and is in need of modernization.

The Canon 2x converter is very sharp on a sharp lens (like the 200 f2) , but not much chop on zooms – the 1.4 is less fussy.

I think they’re new zooms on the way shortly, and they will be worth waiting for.

    Great stuff Tim !

Me and a couple of the Aussie invasion squad will be over to fish the Tongariro this winter and if you’re interested, I will let you know dates.

We will, of course, be sledging the Kiwi’s about the rugby while there as well.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The light-tent and constant lights will be fairly easy to get started with and will work well enough with flies, but flash is IMHO better again.
Also, speedlights (I hate mine :D) are not as good as proper flash units, though in saying that, I don’t have a lot of knowledge of the cheap studio flash gear around these days – maybe things have changed ?

This I do know, you can do great fly shots with one studio flash head and a small square softbox and a reflector.

In my eperience, you need a thick skin to work in the magazine industry and should NEVER burn a bridge.

For one, if you give someone an earfull, even if you don’t want to work for their mag, they might move on to another magazine you do want to work for.
And second, it’s a small circle of people with a big mouths and a long memory.. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Lastly, it’s a tough game and generally everyone is to busy to listen to some one whine about stuff.

All that said, it can be very frustrating and it helps to have some friends in the business you can have a bitch with and maybe seek advice from to keep things in perspective.

IMHO, Tying sequences in B&W would be fine as long as there’s a color reference shot of the flies at some point.

    Awesome looking cod flies Morsie..

It was 103 deg. here today before the storm hit – felt very much like cod weather.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Morsie, when shooting B&W film you had the option of color filtering to change tonal range and contrast.
Red for example, was used to darken skies and make the clouds really stand out, yellow and orange did the same to a lesser extent.
Green was great for skin-tone and foliage.

With digital and a raw you can do the same filtering in PS or LR with control that Ansel or Weston would have killed for.
