Chad SimcoxMemberI just got a copy of a mag that I did a shoot for. Open it up, to see that someone at the record label sent them the non retouched, preview version… bummer. I hate that my true work wasn’t represented in the mag. Not to mention they didn’t credit me on the photo (or any of the other photogs on their photos for that matter).

MemberSucko.
I rarely send hi-res out anymore unless it’s been fully edited, largely to avoid possible situations like this.
Seriously though – sorry to hear man.

David AndersonMemberNo photo credits ?
That sucks.
Funny, I bet the editor, art director, ad sales, publisher, tea lady and accountant all have a credit somewhere.

Ben CochranMemberYea, that does suck Chad and I hate it for you! Only positive, is that it happened with an image file that you did not mean to be published.
Had a publisher in europe not list my name in the credits, for a cover shot, that I did a few years back as well. Hurts but as it is my business, I made sure to not burn the bridge.
This is something that urks me but again, knew better than complaining much to the publisher: Turned in what I thought was a very good TIFF and see the published image was destroyed by their art department. That and have had my name translated to country dialect’s, like Beno Cochrano lol
Put it behind you, my friend, and keep plugging away at it. Your to good to let this one slow you down and interrupt your flow. Let the client know but act like you weren’t terribly disappointed and just need to make sure that your name is in ALL future credits. I know that they understand the importance of that.

Chad SimcoxMemberKendal, I didn’t send out a high res. They ran a 72dpi photo. I had to send preview images for approval to the record label who was working with the mag on this. It was a unique situation where the photos went through the label and passed on to the mag. Surprisingly it looks really good as a half page image.
Zach, I’d rather not say. It’s one of the large contemporary rock mags.
Ben, I’m not too worried about it. Things happen, and there’s not use in getting upset about it. I don’t want to burn any bridges (even if they are just 2x4s held together with duct tape).
I’m not mad at anyone to be honest, I’m going to assume it was a simple mistake (tight deadlines, art dept. accidentally left the preview in from the mock up, or whatever situation). It sucks when it happens but if we’re fortunate enough, magazines will still be around long enough it to happen again.

MemberBloody hell – this will teach me to write notes here when I’m in a hurry.
What a MEANT to write was that I don’t send anything BUT hi-res images. When I’m sending proofs, I only provide them in a flash gallery (via Lightroom) so they’re only able to review the images.
Then, if they’ve a few that they want, I export the hi-res to an accessible webpage that they can right-click save-as on. So far that’s worked really well for me.
Er – that is, unless the publication has an FTP – which seems generally to be the case now.
Anyway – it does suck, but you’ve got the right attitude, so you should be good to go.
