Just turned up my copy of the 1965 Dan Bailey Catalog with these prices:
Orvis Battenkill – $99.50 – $112.50
Fenwick Feralite – $32.50 – $40.00
Johnson-Phillipson Profile 800 (Glass) – $35.00
Johnson-Phillipson Profile 400 -$15Mike
Wow, the Battenkill was the same price in 1965 as it is now.
Note: I’m too lazy to actually look what the battenkill costs right now but if my memory serves me right it was in that price range last time I looked, maybe a year ago.
For Texas, why not just wear a cut-off t-shirt?
Seriously – I only bust out the down when the temps really start dropping.

Looks like an awesome trip. Thanks for the report. How about a little info on the flies you guys used? I am going to be there next week and would love to know what has been working.Flies are probably the least important part of the arsenal.
Bright lines – they actually sell like crazy! It’s a consumer driven color – someone likes it (not me).
DT – I put one on my 2 wt and it’s the only situation where it works for me. But mostly for the reasons Zach said. WF lines are just better in my opinion.
Species Specific Lines – Yes, I think a Carp line takes it too far. However, it’s marketing and these companies are looking for any way to make a buck. Even though you pay 70 bucks for a line, most line companies (and all of Fly Fishing) make little money and the people pushing these products are working their butts off to try to find away to sell a few more lines a year.
I really think the species specific lines are nice. Yes, you can do just about anything with a SA GPX but it is a hell of a lot nicer to throw poppers with a bass taper (or pike/muskie is sweet too) or throw dries on XPS. Figure out what you do most of the time (even if it is a DT line) and go with that.
