MemberI have wanted to get a pic of a brown that has eaten another fish for a while .. Finally got the opportunity last weekend and thought I’d share. I am pretty sure this was a large sculpin, but it was a little hard to tell. Just makes you love throwing streamers even more! Go big or go home. lol 😎 The brown was about 18-19″ the sculpin was about 5″ or so.

MemberDid you at least put it back in the fish’s mouth before letting him swim off?

MemberYou might be suprised, I don’t think he would have choked to death on a 5″ sculpin.
I have a photo somewhere of a 15″ brown with a 10″ brown sticking out of it.

MemberI dunno the way that fish was jammed in there … I doubt it could have eaten much else. It does make me wonder how common it is for this to happen and/or if its part of their natural feeding process, to go after prey that wont quite fit down their throat.

MemberOk .. I figured if anyone would know a bit about the topic it would be Kelly Galloup. I thought I’d share his reply …
“I get one a week with a tail hanging out it’s face. I don’t think they are stuck, they may come back up alittle during the fight but i think mostly they just have not swallowed them yet. I have seen them in fish that are just sitting near shore so I think it is just a slow process.”

MemberMy first thought was just as Mike’s ;D
A few years ago I helped a DNR guy stock some tiny shoal bass, and in the bucket was a little guy (less than an inch) that had died while eating another of the little guys.Feb 19, 2010 at 6:50 pm #70293Corey Kruitbosch

Stu HastieMemberNice Corey 😎
On the topic of fish eating fish. Last summer I watched a fish, which when I first saw it, was quite agitated, thrashing its head around and looking like it had something stuck in it’s mouth. I watched as something appeared to be coming out of the fishes gill cover and was gobsmacked when a small eel appeared from the gill plate, and swam away with the fish in hot pursuit.
Dumass me watched this happen two times, before it dawned on me I should get the camera out! ::)

For perspective, that’s about a 3lb fish.
Another time I watched a 2lbish brown for about 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get a big crayfish (crawdaddy?) down the hatch. That’s a lot of protein.

The Itinerant AnglerWow Corey (and Stu), nice images! It makes you wonder how/why that fish ate your streamer with that sculpin hanging out of his mouth.
