MemberI have read a lot of the threads on here regarding reels. There are threads discussing which reel color matches best with a certain rod/reel seat. Which reel has the best drag. Which reel is the best. I am interested in hearing which of your reels you most enjoy fishing with? Which reel do you derive the most pleasure from while out on the water? Is it because of the aesthetics? Color? Drag? Singing that it does when a fish takes off on a run? Maybe there are 2 categories here: 1) 6wt lines and under 2)7 wt lines and over including salt.

MemberMost of my fishing is trout fishing with either a 5 weight or a 7 weight.

MemberMy Smart Aleck answer is the reel I most enjoy using is the one attached to whatever rod I’m using at the moment.
However, I own 3 Ross Rhythm reels and 1 Ross Evo and a couple Orvis so I guess Ross would be the winner by numbers of reels bought.
I am a big fan of the Ross Rhythm series. Too bad they discontinued it. They are well built reel.
To me a reel is enjoyable to use if I don’t have to fuss with it. The more I can line it up, attach it to a rod and then never really think much about it again, the more I like the reel.

MemberReally like the Abel .5 on the Winston LT 5wt and Ross Gunnison 1 & 2 on the Scott 4 & 5 wts. I generally like a classic look. However, just went out on a limb and purchased the Waterworks Velocity Hard Alox for a 6wt as my entry to the large arbor arena.

While a guy can certainly get a more hardened finish for more money, I’m a huge fan of Lamson’s Konic. It’s cast aluminum, but features the same drag system as their entire line, and that’s what matters to me. I fish a Konic 3.5 on my 6 – weights for bass, pike and light saltwater. I love that I can interchange my lines easily. For example, for my 6 weight, I have a spool with RIO Gold for nymphing and such, and a spool with RIO Grand for streamers and really big indicator rigs. Same goes for my 7 and 8 – the flexibility, especially with sinking lines, is key for me.

noneMemberI’m slowly moving towards more fishing with bamboo fly rods. I think the past 3-4 years I’ve fished 80-90% with boo.
So, the reels I enjoy most are classic reels. My vote would go to:
* Hardy St George 3inch (#4-5)
* Orvis CFO III (#4-5)
* Winston Perfect 2 7/8inch (#3-4)On my 9ft graphite rod (Scott G2) I like to fish with a Hardy Perfect 3 1/8inch (#5).

MemberHardy Bougle IV 3-1/4″. I have three extra spools for it and it ends up on most of the rods I fish with. Like Jay, I tend to fish mostly bamboo and it looks pretty nice with most of my rods.

I really have fallen in love with my Sage 2050, I think it looks great and has an interesting and excellent drag… I also like the fact that the 20XX 18XX and the 16XX’s’s are interchangeable.7w
Don’t forget about Shilton’s… Excellent for light salt and any silver, I have a mate in BC who only uses Shilton for his Stealhead and Salmon, and the they look good…Feb 1, 2010 at 2:47 pm #42021
J.T. GriffinMemberI love my Tibor Everglades reel. Love the cork drag, the sound it makes when a bonefish is pulling backing off it, and the bonefish I have engraved on it is just the right amount of bling.

MemberI like my Nautilus #8 because it means I am fishing salt (most likely).
I have a new Loop Evotec I hope to get to love as much as the #8.
