Bob RigginsMemberMy three go to redfish flies are
1. Kwan
2. Toad
3. Prince of TidesThe Prince of Tides is the easiest to tie, but my favorite is the Kwan. You should be able to Google all of them to get instructions.

MemberThe best fly is from Cap’t Jack Brown of Bay Street Outfitters, it is the “Lowcountry Electric Chicken”
It was deadly on tailing reds for me this year, check it out:http://www.flytyer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=137&Itemid=86

MemberI was guided by Seth Vernon (Double Haul Guide Service) out of Wilmington, NC. He created this variant of the Kwan which is a very successful fly for Redfish.
Vernons Killer Kwan (Rust)

In the above image I used brown marabou, but the recipe calls for a Schlappen feather.
Hook- Gamakatsu SL113H sz. 1
Thread- Uni. thread brown 3/0
Eye- Gold Bead Chain sz. 1/8
Tail- Craft Fur, rust banded with a brown Sharpie marker
Collar- Brown Schlappen feather, webby parts palmered forward
Body- Aunt Lydias Craft Yarn strands tan and brown variegated, figure eighted in place and trimmed round
Weedguard- 25# Mason bent in a V, whipped in at eye & banded with a blk. SharpieJan 13, 2010 at 7:12 pm #57865stevegibson
MemberThis one has been working very well for me. For tailers, substitute bead chain for lead eyes:

MemberIn Charleston, the fish seem to go nuts for anything copper/rootbeer colored. I didn’t have a chance to put together a tutorial, but this fly is about as simple to tie and effective as it gets. I almost don’t fish anything else. Tie it both wieghted and unweighted.
Hopefully this link works.

MemberLast summer when I fished te Hilton Head area the people I fished with said the Copper Head was a killer fly, but it was loosing some punch because so many people had learned about its fish catching ability.

MemberNeal, Here is a better photo of the fly (image from http://www.darksidedrifter.com) Different color scheme but shows what it looks like with a Schlappen feather. FWIW these rock for largemouth bass as well.

MemberI just looked at the Kwan and it is a pretty simple looking fly to tie, and pretty neat story behind the creation…”Show me the money!”

MemberI throw this little baby when the water is skinny skinny. The eyes are mono and it lands soft.

MemberSometimes I think redfish would take a bare hook if you presented it right.

MemberFish the LA Marsh quite a bit and almost always use a yarn crab often with a rattle underneath. If the water is dirty (as it often is here) the shots are short and you need the fly to get down in a hurry.
The rattle is really effective for big black drum when they are nosing around in the mud and they can’t find anything unless they feel it or hear it.
If the water is clear then I tie on something lighter but with good profile. Usually something with alot of marabou that will kinda pulse when stripped.
I like tans, browns, rust colors but not sure that it matters a bunch.
Have had a rare day when they would not hit anything with flash on it but that is rare.
I know that the fish in the SC grass is a diff game altogether but would bet money the rattle crab would work well there. -
