When my wife informed me we were going to Helen Georgia for Thanksgiving, I immediately started thinking fly fishing.  Last time we were there, I discovered there actually are trout in Georgia, so this time I would give it a shot.

Thanksgiving morning found be on Smith Creek in Unicoi State Park.  Nice little creek with some willing trout.  It is a little overfished this time of year, but was pretty productive in the short time I was there.

The next day Neal Osborn invited by to accompany him to the Soque.  What a wonderful place.  We fished a private stretch of water that does not see a lot of pressure.  These are big fish and willing to play.  Most of the big fish were stockers.

But there are some large wild fish in the river.

We hooked up several that were larger, but they either broke off, straightened the hook or ran for cover.  Well, with tarpon they count the jumps, so I figured we could too.

Of course, there was the obligatory fisherman’s lunch at the local restaurant.

As you can see, the burgers were great.

I just found Neal’s post in the photography section.

    Bob,
Glad you enjoyed our fine State and the fishing it offers.

    Neal,
Just a tip for your photos, next time let the angle put the fish in the net until he relaxes, and then get him to lift the thumb off the fish.
