Nice job Andrew! I’ve been trying to get out and chase gar all summer….just didn’t happen. I’ve tied (and used) rope flies before….but never used a wire nut for the head. Neat! I typically glue a set of eyes on each side of the “head” and then cover with a blob of epoxy. It looks neat but as you probably know….the fish are not very picky.
I must say that I’m surprised you had any hookups this late in the year. I always thought (obviously I thought wrong) that the gar quit feeding on the surface once the weather (and water) starts to cool off.
Did you not wear gloves? 😮
I’m assuming this was a sight fishing affair?

Zach….If/when you decide to purchase another pad….I bought a Big Agnes pad last year and have been really pleased with the comfort and durability of their product. It is extremely lightweight and compact as well. I was a lifelong Therma-rest customer until I fell in love with Big Agnes

For grub…I’d also recommend the Corral (sic) Drive Inn in Gardner…specifically Helen’s Hateful Hamburger after a day of fishing. Of course that some good-looking chow you had!!!
How did the Native Ultimate work on the Yellowstone? I plan to do a summer/fall tour out there when I retire and I am debating whether to pull the driftboat out there or simply cartop the Ultimate. I’m in Georgia.

Morsie…on my first book…I went small with 40 pages and “standard landscape” which is 8″ x 10″….prices start at $19.95 each…no setup fees, etc.
The most recent book is their largest…”large landscape” which is 13″ x 11″. This book is 144 pages and is $90.95. It is a quality “coffee table” type book.
Chad…all I can say is do it! The place is addictive.
If Lindsey was there in ’08 she’ll remember…it was the summer of “The Crash”. We were sitting at the breakfast table one morning while it was drizzling rain and foggy (what else)….and this floatplane comes skidding up on the beach…..she’ll remember it.
