Steve K.MemberThat outfit is a little on the heavy side for most North Georgia streams. It would work well on big rivers like the Toccoa, Hiwassee, Chattahoochee, especially if you are chucking streamers.
For most North Georgia water, a 5-weight would be sufficient and the most versatile. You could throw streamers, dries and nymphs with a decent presentation. With that said, I’d opt for a 4-weight 9 footer.
Hope this helps.
Steve K.MemberI bought these…and have had them for seven years now……they are absolutely fantastic.
Steve K.MemberBack on topic….
Yeah….when the wind blows…..the boat can actually move upstream. π
I’ve never fished from a skiff,
Dave Z. would be the guy to ask.
Steve K.MemberMike,
I have a place on the Tuck DH. Let me know when you’ll be in the area. I’d be happy to tell you what I know.
Duke Energy graced us with a new launch at Locust Creek (top of the DH) last year….see below.

Steve K.MemberThe mishap will probably wind up on Facebook or Youtube eventually. Everything else does. π
Just for kicks….Jay should Google the hull ID number. Many states have boat registration databases online…..something might show up. I’m not sure if the ID number is on there….but in Georgia you can get the owner’s name and address by running the registration number.
Steve K.MemberI think the damage came about in a less dramatic fashion….Dude backed into something…..popping the sides out. It’s looking good Jay!
Steve K.MemberWhile I’m reluctant o do so…..I have a friend that orders a lot of gear from a China Distributor. Last week he got the following fly line for $20 bucks…no shipping costs. Turns out….it is a Rio Gold line that was re-packaged….although some of the Rio documentation was still in the package. It did not come with the plastic case, but instead, was in a Ziploc bag. His reasoning…if the line is crap….he’s only out $20 bucks.
He also has purchased CNC machined reels for less than $30 bucks each. I’ve seen them and they look like decent quality.
I say that to say this……it looks like the Chinese are marketing their product line to individuals now (via Ebay)…. as well as U.S. retailers. If this catches on….it will be interesting to see how it affects the industry. I’m guessing the local fly shops will feel the pinch first.
Zach….I think you touched on this with the discussion about fly rod manufacturers importing Chinese rods that were sourced from two or three Chinese manufacturers.
This is really sad.
Steve K.MemberNow that’s classy Zach.
Congrats and best wishes to you and Tracy. Looks like you’ve mastered the dutch oven as well.
Steve K.MemberDamn Tim….between you and Travis….two of the best trip reports I’ve seen! Thanks for sharing.
Steve K.MemberI hope the Rubbermaid kicks their ass! π
Steve K.MemberGreat article Zach.
I can actually remember hunting quail before the crash. I had always heard that fire ants were the quail’s demise. Newly hatched chicks, still moist from the environs inside the egg….would attract the ants like a magnet.
I can remember loading the dogs in the truck….and making the rounds from farm-to-farm in search of the coveys. We knew where they would be and would only take one or two birds from each covey…on each hunt.
Anyhow….great article.

Steve K.MemberGood article that I came across on Moldy Chum:

Steve K.MemberHey Simms…..how about a long sleeve non-cotton fishing shirt in the digi-camo pattern?
THIS is a no-brainer.

Steve K.MemberI’ll find out from my son. He uses a guy whose family has access to some private wetlands. Apparently he is satisfied with the service as he has used the guy multiple times.
Updated…………
He says it’s a private “rice farm” near Stuttgart. The guy also has two other tracts of land that are on a lease basis. My son says $150 per day but did add, “we have been hunting with him for the past 6 years.”
Steve K.MemberNice TW!
Me thinks you’ve got it figured out.
Steve K.MemberZach…..that story brings back memories. I’ve been down that road as well….at West Point WMA. That definitely was a “cluster” as you say. π
I used to have some friends that had access to private property beaver ponds. It was almost strictly a wood duck affair…..with birds flying right at day break or dusk and never more than a dozen each time. One hunt and they were gone…never to return. I tried launching on the Hooch down here around Whitesburg….and anchoring up or down river for some pass shooting. I never had any luck with that either.
So….I gave up duck hunting around here a long time ago. My son usually drives to Arkansas twice during the season. He has a guide that he’s used several times.
I have wanted to explore the Savannah area….specifically the area around the National Wildlife Refuge, but have never taken the time to do it.
Thanks for sharing.
Steve K.MemberCan we hear about the “cluster”? π
Steve K.MemberHey Matt,
I don’t know if this will help….but I’ll throw it up to give some perspective. My 1400 on the left and 1450 on the right. I typically take the 1400 in the driftboat. I also have a 1550 but its a beast….think suitcase-size.

Steve K.MemberSeveral years ago Karl Wallenda tight-roped across Tallulah Gorge.
