MemberThanks guys for the responses so far. I have read the thread on Steve’s “Trout Truck” and it is what gave me the inspiration to go this route. I am trying to get something close to what he has.

MemberCameron, I am not tied to the 7.5′ length. I would consider a 7’er. I just want to get the right rod for the job. Honestly, I have never used glass, but I am willing to consider it. I don’t know if you are talking about choices in general or from your own quiver, but I would love to hear what you would suggest.

MemberBased on the positive feedback, I just ordered a lanyard from Joe. He is going to customize it a little for me. I ordered the box style lanyard and he is going to customize it to fit a medium size C&F waterproof box. He is also going to add the leader & license pocket on the back and a foam fly patch between two of the attachment points. I will post a pic once I receive it.
I have put in a request for the creel bag on my Father’s Day/birthday/Christmas wish list.

MemberThat is a cool idea about converting the pocket to hold the camera. The more I hear and see of his stuff, the more I like it.

MemberI don’t have a copy of the DVD to offer in trade. However, if you have a Netflix membership you can get it from there. That is how I watched the DVD.

MemberThat is a Columbia Skiff Guide L/S shirt . The one in the ad is the older version as it has the fish on the front.

MemberZach, is the Snake River Pant the all-synthetic that you mentioned earlier in this thread? If so, it is now listed on the MK website and I would love to hear your review.

MemberThe accommodations there are just fine. You can get a discount on the rate if you book a guided trip with the shop. There are less expensive options, but staying in the cabins puts you right on the river. The best part about staying in their cabins is that it allows you to fish their private stretch of water. The shop itself has the largest fly selection of any shop I have ever seen.
If you want to go the guide route ask for Dan Cone or Mike Calcattera. They are both great guys and will put you on plenty of fish. Which ever way you decide to go, you will have a great time. The Frying Pan is a great river.

MemberBut for fly shops…I stumbled across a fairly new fly shop called The Red Truck Fly Shop. Their logo is really cool…they need to make hats.
Tim, they do have hats. I like their logo as well. Their hats not so much though. Red Truck Fly Fishing is actually a division of Leland. I agree with Zach in that Leland has one of the coolest logos out there. Between Leland and Red Truck someone is on the ball as far as logos are concerned.

Zach, an interesting podcast subject might be to interview one of the big shops with both a brick & mortar and web presence. You have interviewed many folks in the fly fishing manufacturing end. It would be interesting to hear from some folks on the retail side as well. Possibly one of the big boys and someone on a smaller more regional/local scale.

MemberHave you decided which watercraft to purchase? The Watermaster has always appealed to me.
Bob
No Bob I haven’t decided yet. I keep going back and forth between the two. Each seems to have a little feature that I like better over the other one. It is probably going to boil down to which one I can get a better package deal on. The WaterMaster is the one that caught my attention first and I have looked at it for a long time. The problem on both of the watercraft is that I have never seen either one in person. They are not too common here in Texas so I can’t look them over before I buy. I don’t think I will be disappointed with either one though.

MemberI use furled leaders almost exclusively when I fish for warm water species like bass and panfish. I use ones from FeatherCraft. They have tippet rings on the end and all you do is add the amount of tippet that you want. It is a very easy system for me and they seem to last forever. They do cost more, but they last so much longer than regular tapered leaders that they are actually less expensive in the long run. They turn over really well and handle wind well. I haven’t used them for trout and I don’t really have a reason as to why. I have never made my own, but I have thought about as it looks like it might be fun.

MemberI am also a Winston fan. They seem to be a great company willing to emphasize tradition while at the same time embracing the advancements in technology. Nice upgrade to their site!

MemberZach, are talking about the Mirage? I listened to an interview with the guy who designed it and it does sound sick. One of the models will take up in excess of 11″ of line with each revolution. That is amazing line pick up.
