Adam, I’m not planning on using a multi tip on anything below a 6wt as I didn’t think it would be practical. Just thought I would ask the question to see what others had to say about it.

Listen to Zach’s podcast with Gary Loomis. While he did not come out and name names, I would bet that the folks at Sweetwater are getting their blanks from Gary Loomis’ new composite company instead of the Loomis of Shimano.

Zach, I think Grossenbacher would be an excellent interview for a podcast.

Got the opportunity to listen to the podcast today on a trip to the parent’s house. Very enjoyable and educational interview. Loved the diving board analogy. Think it is the best explanation of rod action I’ve heard.

    Thanks Zach!

Well done! Love the shot and was stoked to see it was you that shot it. I’m sure there are many more covers in your future!

Just finished Trout Eyes by William G. Tapply. It is a collection of stories much in the same vein as Gierach. I really enjoyed the clean simple writing. It is definitely worth checking out.

Unfortunately, it has been my track record that when I can’t make a decision between 2 items I will end up with both of them. I am hoping to break the cycle on this one, but have almost reached the conclusion that I will get both.

Dan, there is a good chance there will be some burnt orange in there somewhere. It is a beautiful color!

dannyo, you are correct. I am fishing the Guad.

I have some experience with videography and audio is a BIG component of videos. The shots can look gorgeous, but if the audio stinks then the whole video stinks. I think that is the major limitation to shooting video with DSLRs. If you are planning on just playing music as the audio track, you can be ok. However, if you want any dialogue you will need some sort of external mic set up. The editing process is a completely different animal from still photography. I think the video capabilities of these cameras are an exciting possibility, but, as with anything, there are going to be some trade offs and compromises and no one solution that fits everything.

I should have been more specific with my initial post. When I say down, I mean primaloft most likely. I really have no need for a true down vest here in Texas. Yes, I do plan on fishing in it. The Patagonia Micro Puff vest is the first one that I saw that got me started on wanting one of these type vests. Orvis also has one that looks good for pretty much the same price point. So primaloft does maintain its insulating properties when wet, correct?

You are not the only one who still watches the show. I am addicted to Survivor. During tonight’s episode I found myself wondering about the fishing in Samoa. I am sick. I can’t watch anything without relating it back to the fly somehow.

Not exactly sure what it means, but the first 3 to post on this thread are all from Texas.

A rough guideline that I have heard is to take the size of the fly and divide by 3 to get your tippett size. For example, if fishing a size 12 then you would want at least size 4 tippett. This tends to give you the smallest size tippett to use, but there are always exceptions. I threw size 12 Green Drake dries with size 6 tippett this summer on the Frying Pan with no problem.
