MemberJust finished “Shin Deep – A Fly Fisher’s Love for Living Water” by Chris Hunt. It is a collection of essays much like Gierach. The author is a small stream guy and much of the stories revolve around chasing native cutties and brookies. He has an easy writing style and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I finished it in a day. The last essay is about his Granddad and is the only fly fishing story I have ever read that actually brought tears to my eyes while I was reading.

MemberWent to the stop in New Braunfels, TX. Very nice. The highlights for me were Musky Country – Zero 2 Hero and the film about the 2 buddies. Can’t remember the name of the film right now, but if you have seen it you will know which film I’m talking about. It has one of the most interesting characters ever portrayed in a fly fishing film. There is the usual quality fish porn, but the bar continues to be raised by the quality of storytelling contained in the films. They have moved way beyond just shot after shot of fish porn.

MemberSorry Zach. I checked my copy and found no article. Just the book review as mentioned above.

MemberI recently caught the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) when it made a stop in Texas at GRTU Troutfest 2011. One of the highlights of the tour was the clip from Musky Country. It was enthusiastically received by the crowd, of whom I doubt more than a handful had ever fished for musky. I had never even considered chasing musky, but since seeing the clip at F3T and getting my own copy of the DVD, I am seriously considering planning a trip up north to chase these fish.
Robert (and Brad and his crew) did an excellent job on this project. It is definitely one of the best fly fishing films I have ever watched.

MemberMy experience is that the Chromes are running true to size. I wear an 11 1/2 – 12 in street shoes and went with the size 12 Chromes and they fit just right for me. For what it is worth, I am extremely happy with my new Chromes. They were exactly what I was hoping they would be. Much lighter and more comfortable than my Simms boots.

MemberZach, I first saw the link to this on the Orvisnews.com RSS feed and have already watched the entire video. Thank you for a job well done. I have actually never set up my own reel and have always let the shop do it for me when I purchased a new line or reel. (Actually, on the very first reel I ever bought I watched the shop guy set it up and I asked questions as he went. He just told me not to worry about it as I would probably never do it myself and someone at a shop would do it for me.) Now having watched your video I have the confidence that I can do this myself. It is not something mystical and magical. I think the reason most folks don’t do it themselves is because they have never been shown how. Your tutorial is excellent and the first time I have seen anything like it that shows the whole process in one place. You have just added to my fly fishing foundational knowledge and I somehow feel empowered. Thanks again.

MemberThere are some great shots here guys. Kent, I especially like the one of the guy in the tube sitting below the weir. Were those taken in Calloway Gardens by chance?

MemberSince this thread has decidedly taken a turn for the worse with the aggie talk, I feel the need to correct this with the following: Hook ’em Horns!

MemberJohn, I read that Korkers is keeping the 2.0 soles in current production for at least another year. so you shouldn’t need to run out and stock up quite yet.

MemberI have had my eye on the new Korkers since I first heard about them back in September. Looks like they are much improved with the complete coverage with the soles. Does anyone know when they will be available?

MemberLooks like Simms has some interesting entries in the Fly Box category through their Lodge accessory line. The molded foam boxes look like a winner since they use slotted foam and you can use the C&F inserts. I have always wanted to like the Morrell Foam boxes because they are light weight and they float, but I don’t like the solid foam. These seem like Simms might have found a good solution for that. I also like the Wheatley in the Simms orange. Since I am a Texas alum, I have always been a little partial to the Simms orange.

MemberMany thanks guys. On somewhat of a related note, those of you who have caps on your trucks, what do you recommend for installation? Is it best to have the cap bolted on or clamped?
