    Since I am new at fly fishing can someone tell me what size hook or weight of fly to the fly line is best to use

    A rough guideline that I have heard is to take the size of the fly and divide by 3 to get your tippett size. For example, if fishing a size 12 then you would want at least size 4 tippett. This tends to give you the smallest size tippett to use, but there are always exceptions. I threw size 12 Green Drake dries with size 6 tippett this summer on the Frying Pan with no problem.

    A good starting point is, will the tippet or leader fit through the eye of the fly?
