MemberI’m ashamed to say I haven’t fished the Frying Pan before, but am going to spend a little time there next week. Any suggestions on current flies, etc?
Thanks!

MemberJust spoke with a buddy who guides on the Pan a few days ago and he told me the dry fly fishing is steady throughout the day. There are still some green drakes coming off if you hit it right. I would suggest you contact Frying Pan Anglers and ask for either Mike Calcaterra or Dan Cone. Both are great guys and will steer you in the right direction. Enjoy your trip. It is a great river!

MemberI just tied a custom order for a guy heading out this friday and included some standard small nymphs/midges and some big streamers. the guy is fishing near the mouth at basalt.
I threw in some foam wing pmd/bwo generics for him to use as an indicator.
We’ll see how

I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when i read that….I was roommates with both of those guys for a summer. Great guys, Mike and I still keep in touch all the time. We used to tear it up pretty good. Anyway, I agree with his suggestions, stop in at Pan Anglers and tell Mike that Tim says hi.
I’ve only fished the Pan in the winter, but midges were on fire then, which I believe is nothing out of the ordinary for the Pan.

MemberPLEASE fish the “TOILET BOWL”
Sep 17, 2009 at 1:23 am #39097anonymous
MemberThere is sooooooooo much more river than the toilet bowl.
Sep 17, 2009 at 2:45 am #39098tradd d
MemberThe Toilet bowl is okay just to say you did it but when there’s about 8 people in the hole “or waiting their turn” starting at 6am till dark, it’s a bit crowded with too many bait chuckers snagging. It use to be okay for pigs any maybe still is, but the last time we were there it’s far from 40 fish, lot’s of small ones and an occasional pig but not like the good ol’ days (I fish the river about 6 trips a year). Great river and plenty of good water even the braids just below the Bowl has big fish spread out and a bit less congestion.

Walking back from the Bowl after a weekday thunderstorm years ago, no crowds that afternoon thankfullyGood luck if you decide to fish the TB or if you’re game fish the Upper Pan at night and see who shows up, that’s my favorite 😉

MemberI am partial to the Bowl only because the biggest trout I have ever caught came out of there.

Cameron MortensonMemberMike B….great photos and looks like your “work trip” was a success. Glad to see that the J.W. Young reel is getting some use. It looks perfect on the Scott “G”.
Oh…and great “T.F.M. Spotting” photo too.
