Roy ConleyMemberJohn –
NGTO has been a great resource for info on this issue. I doubt they put in any kind of slot limit; the Toccoa is a sort of semi-touchy area from a regulations standpoint, because technically it isn’t actually a navigable waterway under current Georgia law. Everyone has been pussyfooting around that issue and proceeding as normal, but don’t look for the DNR to do anything that would be in any way controversial on that tailwater.
Zach
Touchy is right!
Roy ConleyMemberI think $425 + tip is the max I, currently, am willing to pay.
Roy ConleyMemberI have Verizon and could text my wife back in Tennessee from the 2nd meadow of Slough Creek, my bud with me gave up and turned his iPhone off
That issue is not a Verizon vs AT&T, although who’s tower is closer will make a difference, rather my fishing bud has an Iphone and I have a Blackberry, both on AT&T and his just does not have the range other phones have.
Roy ConleyMember1st issue will be the frequency of the RFID device.
Roy ConleyMemberWhile you should always get the current data on weight limits when fly, especially when flying includes light aircraft, would you seriously cancel a 10 day – 2 weeks fishing trip over a baggage fee? With all of the lodge, guide, meal, clothing cost ETC that you have determined is fair, a $50 baggage fee ends the trip.
Roy ConleyMemberYea …and wouldn’t need upgrading for very long time.
Famous last words, right!!!!!
Roy ConleyMemberI have been using the Fishpond “RODEO 31″ ROLLING DUFFEL” for a number of years.
Roy ConleyMemberThey seem to be on a 3 year cycle. I would like to get a 7D for a song when they upgrade it but im afraid that they will not be doing that for 1-1/2 to 2 years unless Nikon forces them to. The D300s isn’t that old though.
Im suprised to hear that you would consider leaving the 1D AF system for a 5D mkII.
The expeditiations over here in the Nikon camp is for Nikon to replace both the D300s and the D700 between April and September next year.
Roy ConleyMemberI ask a friend in the industry recently why they had never been a major player, he said was told that was not their business model or desires to be a Sage.
That’s hard to believe. Who makes a product NOT to sell it to the masses?
That’s easy, most every high end speciality product manufacturer. The sad fact is that in many circles, quality does not sell.
Roy ConleyMemberMy vote would go for the new Nikon P7000, great pocket camera that does most everything you will want.
Roy ConleyMemberFor wade fishing I would get a purpose built wading staff.
Roy ConleyMemberThe guy in the shop made me a crazy offer on the 1541 Gitzo,, I left with it.
Finding a Gitzo in a local shop, not NY, is a small miracle.
Roy ConleyMemberI have pretty given up on any tripod or head you will find in most shops.

What’s your cost on shipping a piece of oversized luggage via UPS? I’ve not had a bag loss problem except by third world airlines, and I’m thinking that might be prohibitively expensive. I’d rather go small and get everything on.
Zach
Zach..
Your cost is directly proportional to the weight you are shipping and the amount of ins you wish to buy. You can easily spend a $100 on a 50+ pound bag with $3-5K of ins. OTOH, what would you be willing to pay if you are standing in the Jackson airport, without your checked bags, and the airline is not sure where your bag is or when it will arrive. We each have to do a cost benefit analysis on these issues.
Roy ConleyMemberZach, airline baggage fees are not the point.
Roy ConleyMemberNice, but I notice most of the content is podcasts. I wonder if the written word is dead.
With all of the texting, tweeting, ETC going on, I am not sure you could read (interpret) anything written by someone under 25.
Roy ConleyMemberSave yourself some money, go to dick’s (or other sporting goods store) and pick up a canoe dry bag.
Roy ConleyMemberWhether your staff is rude or not, one thing is for certain and that is the number of customers is not growing. Fly shop business today is a zero sum game and you need to do everything you can to get your share. A fly shop without a REAL Internet presence is most likely headed out of business. The staff better be knowledgeable and friendly. The owner best know what a sale is all about and best be ready to add a $50 fly line for free with each rod purchase.
Roy ConleyMemberBut to each his own; we all have to justify our own expenditures.
Justification is easy, redefine need to mean want!
This might explain why I own 14 B2t, B2x and B2mx rods.

That isn’t exactly right. Cabela’s would still charge the 4% state tax (I think Georgia is 4%). I’m not sure about the local portion of sales tax. This is all contingent on the shipping address. I live in NH which has no sales tax on goods. If I buy something online and ship it to my parents or sister it gets taxed at the rates present in their states. [/quote]
Cabela’s does not have a physical presence in GA and therefore state taxes on sales to GA residents is not done. For Cabela’s to do so would kill their mail order business in GA. After all, as has been noted above, the lack of sales tax, in many instances, is the price savings.
