Also, since Winston is raising the prices of the top-of-the-line rods by about $80. each, I do not think adding Cabelas as a retailer is a move of desperation. Prices I saw for the B2 series were $765 or so.

Concern, 7.4 quake is a big one and New Zealand is a small country.

    Roy –

I am in favor of a mining industry, I just want it to do the least damage possible.

    Zach

Zach, this is where you and I must disagree, for I what them to do the least damage reasonably possible.

Not  to make excuses for anyone, but lets look at some of the exaggeration in this matter. We have a lot of discussion of the 8-9 million gallons of water, possibly, removed from streams.  For those that are familiar with the Nantahala DH, it flows at 100 cfs (per NCDNR personnel).  That amounts to 64.6 million gallons per day.  Or we could do one well per day (1/7 of the Nans flow) and you would not notice it when on the river.  BTW, during the latest drought, the Nan got down to about 40 CFS and still fished well.  Yes, 9 million gallons is a lot of water, but there is a lot of water to take it from. In other words, that is not as bad as it sounds.  Also, we have the descriptions of surface scaring at these wells.  From the air, it kind of looks like what we do to the pristine mountains when a developer comes in and builds a new subdivision.

Yes, this needs to be looked at and monitored.  Our biggest problem is that there will be a lot of financial resistance to adequate monitoring.

Not to be political, but just stating the obvious. The “FRAC Act” as proposed is sponsored by only Democrats and Republicans are projected to gain control of the House this fall.

Lets not also forget that with wildlife, a very good tripod and head are needed.

The modern day version of Zach’s recommendation would be a 055prob tripod and a 494 ball head with RC2 plate.

Well, lets keep in mind that all of the speculation on the web is just that speculation.

Neal, while there maybe some hoppers still around the 1 st week of September, you will, almost certainly, need a #14 black foam beetle.

With bright sunlight and slow shutter speeds you will need a ND filter to control the amount of light coming through the lens.

the release could have waited until Monday based on their release patterns over the previous several months.

And if someone that was ill prepared to deal with high water had been on the river Monday, COE could have waited until Tuesday, or Wednesday or forever right. It would be nearly impossible for the corp to insure that all of the irresponsible/foolish people are off the many miles of river prior to a release. Lets not forget those intrepid fishermen that never check a release schedule, ever! The point is that neither of these two men thought it was worth while for them to spend the money for appropriate equipment (life jackets and cold water clothing) nor did they take appropriate action to learn how the river reacts as water comes up. IMHO, the corp has no responsibility in this what so ever.

UV Filters are on all my lenses, mainly for protection (it’s paid off – over time I’ve smashed 4 UV filters with no ill effects to the lens).

To Kurt’s point, I also buy the filter to match the glass – ie, I don’t buy a $30 filter to put on a $1500 lens. If you spent the money on the lens, spend the money on the filter too.

If just for protection, would it not be cheaper to buy high quality neutral contrast filters?

I do not use UV filters with my DSLR cameras.

I fall into the camp of only wanting to pay once for something like a ND filter.

As I see the future of the IPad and other net books, they are all going to have issues with obtaining growth beyond the novelty stage until the engineers resolve the eyestrain issues.
