At a local neighborhood pond for the last two summers we have been seeing these big yellow mayflies just before dark.  The pond is full of 12 inch bass and they hammer these bugs (23 fish in 25 mins last one nigh last summer).  I have tied up an imitation but honestly any big hairy leggy bug works. What is this?

Is it a Hexagenia? We get them here too, and they are huge.

Golden Drakes. We get them here on the Yough, they pull out of their nymphal shuck through slow, deep water and the fish wait for them just as they break through the film.

The Hexes I have seen on Lake Erie and in MI are WAY bigger than that.

I would also vote for Golden Drakes.
