I had similar decisions to make and now use two versions for many of the above reasons also you will find having the lettering on its own will have many uses.

Dont generalize the GL region – each state is different.  What goes on in Michigan is totally different than PA, NY, WI, MN, and Canada.

I Did some unscientific research with my wife and (12 year old) daughter. I had each one pond cast a 4,5,6 and 7wt. rod, neither one had any trouble with the handle size or style.

Of course it proves absolutely nothing but I thought you might find it interesting.
