MemberBut saltwater does not make a chinook a chinook, a coho a coho, or a pink a pink whereas saltwater is what makes a steelhead a steelhead.

MemberThis debate is boring.
Why dont you post this on the drake, where you’ve been welcomed so warmly, and see what they have to say about it.

Mark SchaferMemberDont generalize the GL region – each state is different. What goes on in Michigan is totally different than PA, NY, WI, MN, and Canada.

Hey now, lets not forget about Ohio. 🙂

MemberI classify a steelhead as a rainbow trout that starts out in a river, migrates down to somewhere else big and deep, turns silver, eats a lot, grows much, much bigger than the resident trout, and then kindly returns to the river where it’s more convenient to catch them.
But I’m from Tennessee, so what do I know? 🙂

MemberI will never hold a steelhead from any river in the Rust Belt in the same regards as a wild fish from the Pacific, regardless of fighting ability.

MemberSilly debate… but are there sub species within this species?
Careful now… I said I didnt know – And havent ever really researched it, I have researched the Cutts for painting purposes.
We don’t want to start up the Rod in your teeth and Air guitar madness. Lando will get you. 🙂

MemberMike… your not confused at all. sounds like you got it exactly right. But watch out for the ones you catch on Spring Street. Those are strippers.

MemberIsn’t the Skamania a steelhead from some river system in Washington, that was imported to the GL region as well?

MemberActually figuring the Little Manistee will be the focus. 😕

MemberYou will do great with Scmidt Outfitters, i haven’t fished with them, but Ray has been around along time and is well respected in the area. I would bet you would be floating the manistee, but maybe the lower little man. is big enough, i’m not sure. There is some great walk-in fishing in the little manistee near Irons, and the PM is a great river too, but a bit further of a drive. If you go there, stop by Baldwin Bait and Tackle, those guys are great and will hook you up with the needed info. Spend a few hours (early or late to avoid the canoe hatch) on the Flies Only section. Also check into the Pine, its a bit smaller river, with little pressure and some great fishing. Its a dang cold river, the only one i’ve seen that has made my Lab shiver.
Tim, I’ve been out a few times, medium success i guess. We’re bulding a house right now, so not alot of time left over for fishing. I’ve heard its getting better the last few days with alot of fresh fish being sited due to the recent rains we’ve had. A buddy was heading to the White today, i guess its been fishing quite well. I;ve got some pics i’ve been meaning to put up, but haven’t gotten around to it yet – maybe this afternoon.
