Mark SchaferMemberThanks Guys,
My boat is 12′ , about how big do you think it would be folded, my idea is to build a box to store it in to keep her cat and the occasional mouse away, my thought is that a 6x4x4 box should work I’ll wait until it’s folded to build it but am I way of.
Mark SchaferMemberI carried their products for a time, but never got any real traction with them, I may be the only one that still wears one of their rain coats. The pack looks nicely designed, and must have caught the eye of a few people at the show(although I’ve never fully trusted the awards process), I personally don’t like anything on my chest but a lanyard, even my Goretzen gets in the way sometimes.
It does look useful for the raft next to the rowing seat.
MS
Mark SchaferMemberWe ended up taking a private tour with Blue Planet in Key West, the kids loved it got to see up close lots of marine life and learn how the Eco system works there, amazingly we stopped at the Lorelei(best fish sandwich) for lunch the next day and they were picking out jelly fish etc. looking over the railing.

Mark SchaferMemberRoss was always my first suggestion to customers the BG and Momentum are great Salmon and Steelhead reels, I like Hatch, and Bauer gets some looks.I tend to like the small guys Beulah,Teeny etc.
Mark SchaferMemberthanks guys, I found a group that does tours the kids seem interested in that, I’m putting in a vote for another snorkeling trip so we shall see.
Looks like it will be deep sea fishing, the kids have never been on the ocean and this trip really isn’t about me.on another note I’m going to store my raft in Columbia Mo. while my daughter is in school,so if anyone is headed there and wants company I will be looking for reasons to visit her, didn’t think it would be so tough to have one leave home.
Mark SchaferMemberThanks for the help guys, and I will let you know what questions i come up with as i dig a little deeper, but for now are any of the rivers worth dragging my drift raft along.
Mark SchaferMemberthe Cherokee is a home town product here, but they are stacked up on several parking lots(1000’s) waiting to be tested for some defect in the transmission the way it sounds.
I considered an older jeep CJ as a project for my son and a fishing/hunting rig but really needed a daily driver that could accommodate 4 adults so i went with a full size truck, my first CJ had 200,000 and a lot of battle scars but the 4.2 engine pulled my boat and tool hauler just fine.
Mark SchaferMemberWow, talk about sticker shock $900 later everything is on the way, I went with covering on the seat covers because my son thought we should have camo, I did get weathertech mats but Cabelas said 9weeks to get them and weather tech had them in stock for a few bucks more on shipping.
now its time to go plow shopping.
Mark SchaferMemberThanks Drifter just happen to have a few points left and the store is right up the road.

Mark SchaferMembernot a big music fan, so i lean towards books on tape or pod casts
maybe thats why no one lets me drive.
Mark SchaferMemberI was warned about the swamp a** effect in the summer and this thing is dark gray and black.
the checking around I have done makes it seem to come down to picking the color you want in my case I really like mossy oak w/black.
I’m starting to get the dreaded raised eyebrow from the wife, I think the power rear sliding window did it.
Mark SchaferMemberI’ve been thinking about a “beers-n-bugs” night there is a local store with a great selection and a guy that does a brief talk on a beer or style of, and you get to try a few, pair that with a few local tiers doing a demo pattern maybe even put together a materials kit to go along with them, bring your own vice etc. have a beer tie a bug, even an “open vice night” show off your own creations.
any thoughts?
Mark SchaferMemberZach,
That’s kind of why I brought the question here thinking some current or former owners might be around.I still do business with a handshake, but I see where there could be a variety of pitfalls, and it’s impossible to explain personal relationships, yes I know famous last words. Putting all the CYA things aside.
Realistically a $10000 investment given normal markups and minus a cut for the house should return $2500 in profit and if things should go completely sour I hand over the unsold inventory or buy it outright.
Mark SchaferMemberThat’s the basic “how things work” business school model, but real life is something totally different.
The “investors” know my situation, and I’ve consulted them on other things.
Let’s say the amount is $5000- 10000 and that would go for inventory that I don’t or can’t carry because of buy in’s, minimums etc. so I know exactly how much money it produced and I could split it between the business and the investor, the wildcard is that that inventory raises the stature of the overall business potentially driving increased sales acrossed the board.
So would you be happy with some % of the profit from the sale of the items and keep rolling the initial invest over for a determined length of time, along with maybe key employee purchasing? Additionally having some place to escape to so as not to be under foot at home.
Mark SchaferMember. I’ve got the material now and will see how far I get tying it without using a vise. I may need to go back to that fly shop and ask again.
There was an older guy a few years back at the campground we stayed at during salmon season tying awesome flies with a pair of vice grips and a C clap.
A rental fee might not be a bad idea for an area with say a vice and a few basic tools, maybe some of the samples or even stuff others have left behind/donated.
What about letting a guy use the shops materials and then just charging him for what he used and a little extra most of us can look at a fly and add up the cost in our heads
Mark SchaferMemberYou would think it would be common to have a place for customers to tie a few, we discussed it a couple times but the cons are more than the pros, but personally I would have no issues with an established customer or someone that doesn’t come off like an asshole when they walk in using my mine might even point you to the beer fridge..
Mark SchaferMemberPhil,
I have the same vacuum issue with mine something as thin as a plastic 6pack carry draped over the the seal will work if it a hassle to get to the drain plug.
Mark SchaferMemberThe main idea of a premium ice box is keeping things frozen for longer periods of time,as I have said before you put the frozen food for an entire trip in and take out what you need on a daily basis, its not meant to be a beer cooler as its maximum usefulness,no need to pay the big dollars if you can stop and buy more ice at 7-11.
Also remember that keeping cold things cold will also keep hot things hot, I have cooked corn on the cob for 50 people in my NRS and used it to keep BBQ chickens hot for hours.
Besides a side by side comparison on ice retention some mention should be made of the closer setup plus the lid and hinge system, some other issues, does pulling the drain plug allow complete draining of the inside, with an added lock is it bear proof, does having Yeti plastered on the side make it walk away when you leave camp?
if it’s just keeping beer cold on the raft a soft sided Polar Bear works best for me.
Mark SchaferMemberWhere we go its wild birds get some long spurs, big chunks of ground are tough alone, you might look for fence lines, wind blocks and sloughs
If you have never had your dog in wide open country it can be tough to keep them in gun range my dogs quarter well so it helps.
I use a SxS ic and mod with 5’s or steel 4’s some areas require steel so be sure to check.
Mark SchaferMemberIf you go to parts of South Dakota ditch(roadside) hunting is legal and can be very productive. Even the public access places this time of year won’t be crowded, and sense you can’t start till 10:00 it gives you some time to visit the local coffee shop and ask around.
I haven’t checked the weather but it will brutal up north and the wind will make you think twice about getting out of the truck.
My labs did fine but some fancy pointing dogs have a tough time in the thick stuff,
Check her pads a lot and watch out for the skunks. -
