We still have another month of live bird training season here, and it can be a hard choice for the limited hallpass time between birds and steelhead. My son has a 10 month old lab so at least for this season the nod is going to the pup. its been a busy season for him he’s chased doves in Ohio, pheasants in South Dakota and ducks and geese in Michigan not to mention logging drift boat time for salmon and steelhead.
    Grant,
send me a PM and let me know how your business plans are coming.

Nice stuff, glad someone is able to get on the water this time of year.
Steelhead are in the rivers here, but the kids have me running every weekend lately.

Mark, I use a Ruana knife for a couple of reasons. One, it is made in America and better yet, Montana. Second, I know the craftsmen and they take great pride in every knife they make and stand behind them, period. They are sharp, sexy, and something you would feel great about handing down to your son. A small family operated business since 1938 and just all around good guys. http://www.ruanaknives.com/default.aspx

So which ones are you using, I really like the size of the ” bird and trout”
,but the “smoke jumper”  looks great also.
Having a few beers with you and picking up a knife could seal the deal on the summer plans.

i bought the Nikon Coolpix AW100 before our trip to South Dakota, the pictures are fine as  far as my eye can tell.
Weight and size are great,I’ve had a little trouble keeping the lens clear when i keep it in my pocket.
Looking forward to some water shots of White river browns next month.

A major trip like that with only a carry on is impressive. 🙂

What I’m thinking of is a waist pack with a belt that can be removed (attached by Velcro?), placed in the kayak’s storage area and the bag placed between your legs for convenient use while fishing from the kayak. The straps/belt is just one more thing that can catch the fly line and interfere with casting. Then, when you want to get out to wade fish, reattach the belt within seconds and be on your way.

I buy products from several manufacturers where the entire company was founded on the idea for just one product.

With all of the unfavorable reviews I read it seems hard to believe they could still be in business

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I’m going to go with a bit of each option, including a set of actual photos for Dad with a second copy in my gun safe. Completing things in smaller chunks as I go was also obvious but sound advice.

My dads the kind of guy that wears a belt and suspenders just in case, so for less than say $200 I could do all of that not including any reoccurring or online fees?
    Thanks for the help guys.
Any suggestions on inventory software to assign values and other details to each item

Here in NW Ohio we get some decent Dove shooting along with both field and river waterfowl hunting. I took my 14 year old to South Dakota for his first time last week..I think he’s hooked

    The present and the future

    Jakes first wild rooster

6 month old Zayne and 10 year old Storm gave us a father and son double
Bird numbers were down a bit this year and they were a bit harder to find, but we had plenty of shooting and a good time was had by all.

    Peter,
I picked up a couple tips from the video, the only criticism I had was that a lot of the action took place above the camera out of view at least with the screen on my iPad anyway. Also I think you had something other than coffee in that cup..

Kirk wrote a piece about lake Michigan, and the Great lakes for the Hatch catalog that I have referred back to several times.
“There is just something special, even sacred, about blue-collar,”Made in America” fishing on the Great Lakes. You have to fish there to understand.”
My son and I just got home last night from a 4 day trip  to the area, Salmon, Steelhead and even a Brown now Jake understands why we go.

A good site to keep an eye on for a deal is geartrade.com. I have bought and sold through them with no problems. Steepandcheap is another one to watch.
