Record it and post it as a seminar series on this site.

I would love to go hear you speak, Eat at the grit, and hang with old friends. Maybe pour some beer on Drifter… BUT WITH WORK… cant do it.

I also let all my Fly Fishing Classical Guitarist friends know and they will be there.

Chad – These are smaller. 9×6 just because the idea was quick studies.

I usually do an 8×10 image on a 9 x12 sheet because it is a good portable size and easy to frame. I might start working more in this size bacause they are quicker for me and I can sell them at a price that people feel they are getting a value. It is also a good desk size. These were fun to do. I am presently 4 weeks out on work which is good and bad. I wish I didnt have the day job so I could knock it out faster. Starving artist mentality kicks in and scares me to death – I need a little more in place before I can jump into the deep end and do this full time..

I am also backed up due to creating a website. That should be up and running in about a month or so.

I need help with pricing or need to research much more. Prices for this type of work is all over the place. If anyone has any suggestions or knows someone. Just let me know.

I ACTUALLY POSTED THESE BECAUSE I ENJOYED DOING THEM and was happy with the results.

The quick answer is no, not quite yet – I do not want to over commit…. BUT

They are for sell on a one by one basis as of now. If somebody wants something, I’ll do it especially to build the portfolio a little and to see what folks want. This is something to rebuild and start something new for myself. I am figuring out the pricing game because the last time I sold paintings was portraits to pay for school in 1990, prices have changed quite a bit.

I am also working hard to get my chops back, relax and not over work it. Painting is much like fishing. If you try to hard – you get skunked. I am still over working it a bit. This set was kind of like quick gesture work in school, 20-30 minutes each to loosen me back up. They were all done on Sunday with my morning coffee.

Once I get everything back together from the fire and the new born baby, I’ll be creating prints as well as commission work. I have shirt, hat, poster, thank you cards and calendar designs that are also in the works.

A website is also in the works. It was in the works before the fire and the baby, the baby brag book took that over. The fire also made me focus on what I truly enjoy which is fishing as a whole. That changed the focus of the whole website idea.

I’m in search of a writer for the calendar project – if anyone is interested. Fly knowledge a plus and I’ll split any profit. We can go over the ideas on an fishing trip. You have to talk about something in the car.

I have always known the coffee can trick and if you loose it, you are okay with it. Hard part is finding a coffee can these days. If you are scared about scratching the boat, Go to home depot and get the paint on rubber coating from the paint department. But if you are going that far… Cabellas and Bass Pro have good river anchors or mushroom anchors from $14 – $22 bucks – Both located in PA. But I’m not sure how close to you.

And remember. When was the last time a fish asked you what kind of rod just caught him? If you like it and are comfortable with it, you catch fish. Comfort is the key to that statement.

These Orvis sales are great. I bought 3 CFO reels for $100 a couple of years ago and some other reels as well. I bought a second set of waders for friends as well and I do not know how many of those old soft wading shoes they use to sell. They were like wearing converse high tops which was good in the little mountain creeks. Not so good with the spring creeks out west.

Hope to see you out there. All the suggestions from the other post are good water.

Jay, there can be some great fishing in that area. I have caught 18-20 inch browns in the Conasauga. The fish there are spookier than any other place that I have ever fished and it is really easy to get skunked.

Backpackers… At the first bit of warm weather, the Cohuttas are packed. The fishing is quiet but you will see other packers. I remember one night there was a crew that rolled in a keg… no lie… and they set up camp right next door to me. I just joined in the games but it could be annoying as well. Avoid the horse trails if possible…

Another option that has great fishing with hiking but less folks on average is the Upper Chattooga. I love it and you have water options. You can fish big water for bows and browns or scramble for brooks which I like to do do. This time of year is perfect for the scramblin because the poison ivy isnt bad and most of our native plant are blooming right now. The trillium and mayapple has started in my back yard.

2 good viable options. I believe all the trout in the cohuttas are naturalized wild and the upper Chattooga depends on what part you fish are wild as well. I say “upper” because you do not need to wading 5 falls at any time of year – you do not even think about fish when you see 5 falls canyon… you just want to stay alive. I used to paddle and I think that has to be the scariest ride on earth.

I have to say that sometimes revisiting the past is about as extreme as it gets. Fishing wet is “bad-ass” and extreme in itself.

Lets get real extreme with it. Break out the wool, canvas hips and a long bamboo stick. That sir is “bad-ass” when you are catching more than the rest. We learn from the past but then with a blind eye forget it because something new comes around. The sport of fly fishing is one of the only sports I know that puts history back in the equation.

I commend you for breaking new ground by learning something thought of as a dead art.

“The past, present and future” is a motto that most fly fishers live and breathe even when “Present and Future” is the only part that main stream society understands.

That’s right, it filets, it chops
    It dices, slices, never stops
lasts a lifetime, mows your lawn
    And it mows your lawn
and it picks up the kids from school
It gets rid of unwanted facial hair
it gets rid of embarrassing age spots
    It delivers a pizza
and it lengthens, and it strengthens
And it finds that slipper that’s been at large
under the chaise lounge for several weeks
And it plays a mean Rhythm Master
It makes excuses for unwanted lipstick on your collar
And it’s only a dollar, step right up
it’s only a dollar, step right up

Zach… point well taken – and I did not know the “Whole” story with McDonalds.

All the frivolous lawsuits kind of get to me right now. My house fire really opened my eyes to most of this mess we deal with daily.

    Thanks Kendal.

There are other doodles around the site. I am getting loosened back up to really get serious about the illustration game again. It has been a while and now I have a good focus of what I would like to do.

Sorry about that… Silly Lawsuit make me ill. And when I am a stock holder, it makes me more ill. It really wouldnt matter which Giant Computer company it was. It is crazy.

2 minutes before writing that reply I had to explain once again why the clients PDF proof and their final printed piece did not match. “The GAMUT on your screen is more than the gamut of a 4 color press and on an on.” It happens weekly.

The 6-bit display thing is kind of misleading and a way of putting fear into people for the jury pool. Your MBP is 6- bit but through the use of dithering, it can display high quality. An easy way to describe it like digital zoom. Optical zoom is better but you can get good results with the digital zoom to a point. Your mac Book Pro can display millions of colors but with an external monitor. The MBP display does 200000 to 300000 colors. Not bad for a portable.

I also need to clarify that ALL rules are meant to be broken

I also would like to say. BREAK THESE RULES but keep them in mind. many times we think we broke this rule but we havent. We are just using a different grid

    [hr:2nuxf7cp][/hr:2nuxf7cp]
David – I would like to clarify that “symmetry” in the context that I wrote it refers to the balance and proportion that you mention BUT you took that as literally “SYMMETRY”… lets use the word “balance” instead. Edward Weston is the perfect example of ALL THESE rules – He was the king of the rule of thirds – but his work changed the grid and he realized the mathematical balance points before opening a shutter every time – Those grids are what I really did not want to go into. I would also like tho say that the photo you placed is another good example of the rule of thirds and the use of a horizon line.

The thing is, we ALL fight to stay away from rules. You think you are fighting it and you are using these natural tool of balance everyday. The better the Photographer – the less he or she thinks about rules. Then he or she thinks that they are breaking new ground by not using visual constructs…. BUT THEY DO… and do not even know it.

The purpose of this thread was not staying within the grid – Honestly I could care less about the structure of a photo – I shoot what looks good to me – BUT I know why it looks good to me.
