MemberI might tie up some of those as well, but I was referring to Kevin’s pic of the Red Ass Soft Hackle (RASH).
There are times when I think you could twist a little peacock hearl on a hook and catch some fish.

MemberDon’t get me wrong, I have a Ford F150 Super Crew and love it, I was looking at the Toyotas and could not get the price within budget – I bought the ford at wholesale cost from a family member which you cannot beat, (far less than a Tacoma even). I have a Subaru Outback Wagon and love it. It is rough sleeping in there now but I have done it.
Before those vehicles I had a Jeep Cherokee that was just a bad vehicle. I will not crack on them, it was just time for me to be in a bad vehicle. I owned a Subaru impreza for years that made it 375,000 rough “kayaking the east” mountain miles before trading it for our present Outback. My first truck was a 78 Ford Bronco that made it 425,000 similar miles ( I did have the engine rebuilt in that time) but that truck was a truck.
I would love to have one of the Toyotas that the Australians can choose from because they are made to be abused and used and worked on like Glenn said.

MemberAll this truck talk made me start thinking. When is Toyota going to introduce diesel to the American market? They have it everywhere else. They have a clean twin turbo full size that gets about 23-25 miles to the gallon and the technology to get more. This engine runs cleaner than gas. Americans are missing out. Why have they not tapped that market.
We also have the tacoma which is different that the rest of the world – who has the hilux. The Hilux ride is not smooth enough, so Toy built a different truck for us. The hilux is still built on the frame and suspension that made the toyota truck famous. The T1000 was built on the same frame then it changed to the tundra for the Americans. No one else has this soft ride tundra as well, it’s an american thing.
What happened to the good ole beater that was tough as nails. I remember my first truck and it was made like a good stout beer. In comparison our trucks now are like a weak pilsner. They ride better but I’m scared to get off the pavement
Dual Fuel, Flex Fuel…. another little rant. Why abuse our land by subsidizing corn. If we want to use a plant for fuel, use something that is drought tolerant and doesnt need all the pesticides and fertilizers that destroy our streams – soybean is better and more efficient and doesnt leach the soil as bad, i mean… kudzu would make great gas.

MemberGolf? Who has time for golf. I thought golf courses were places that had lakes for fisherman to sneak onto in the middle of the night. Biggest bass I ever caught was on a night excursion to a golf course. And I didnt pay a greens fee..
Cameron, Great Post. Puts my future into perspective and makes me grin. Amelia has a rod coming with her name on it (really Kevin with Amelia’s name on it….

MemberNow time for me to ramble a little..
With a masters in art history, I try to figure out how this digital change is going to change art as a whole. I am not get all philosophical but the camera was the last major change in art as a whole. The camera turned the art worlds bucket upside down. Starting with expressionism to impressionism then the abstract world opened up and now anything and everything is art. The computer changes the photo game as a whole and which direction will it turn. We have to see and or find the potential in every shot we take.
The digital darkroom has very few bounds. A blow out over exposed shot is one of those boundaries but as we have seen – we can still make a great image out of it… You just have to ask how. If the detail is in there – go get it. I have been having fun with the photos on this forum because there are some

MemberThere needs to be a way to get a southeastern fishing license for Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Throw Alabama and Florida in for the salties.
I am planning Snowbird creek – that looks like the perfect call.
I am figuring out the other waters. I love the Taccoa, I have caught some nice fish in that watershed.
How is the wading on the Hiwassee?
Looks like I am in the market for a boat again. The problem is my wife would disown me if she cant go with me so another kayak is out of the question. Helluva delima.

MemberNew Skies for Dummies???… The zen master to grasshopper answer.
MASK….
[align=center:frk3khui]
[/align:frk3khui]I said that there are many ways to put in a new sky, really there are 100s of way to making a good mask and that is the key. Sometimes it is really easy like this one and sometimes you have to paint it or draw it from scratch. Make a separate file or work within the layers to make a mask that looks similar to this example.
Really mask are a key to retouch, spot color correction, many things. Once you figure out the mask game, the rest is up to your imagination, eye and experimentation.
To tell you how I got the color on this. Let’s say it was the poor mans HDR. I made the separate color corrected files using Aperture. (This was a learning game for me as well) Then combined them like HDR. I over did it on the face a little but I wanted his expression to show up – that is why you feel that he has a mirror on his face. When I left his face darker, the overall photo looked unfinished.
One thing I did notice. Aperture tended to make the files look over saturated. After combining all the layers and flattening it, I softened the saturation which brought back the more natural colors we were loosing. Like everything in this game… this photo was a learning tool for me as well.
Nice Golden Bone…. I do not think I ever said that.

MemberOh, but I have some ideas…one of them involves a poodle, a circus monkey and shamu the killer whale! Uh, was that out loud?
I am still waiting on this photo from Moosedog – sorry, my imagination only goes so far… Do you need to borrow my circus monkey? Poodle? But Shamu is a little harder to catch. How do you tie a seal pattern?

MemberLooking great. I played with it during lunch today… I was showing someone that I work with how we do this stuff. He had no clue.

Memberhttp://www.apple.com/aperture/tutorials/
The tutorial for aperture gives a pretty good overview. The color correction in aperture seems pretty straight forward and easy to understand. I have 30 days to play and see if I want it or not.
If you get to the point for wanting to change a sky in PS or start having issues changing out a sky, just let me know – I have to do it daily. There are a couple of good ways to do it. A quick tip… get to know your mask panel intimately…

MemberKevin,
Is the new sky complements of CS3, or did you learn Aperture real quick?
DustyCS3 – I downloaded aperture last night. Good color correction but the retouch is lacking.

Memberthere is not much detail in the sky… we can put another one in. I need to get aperture to see what it will do.

MemberHappy to see you back on the water. Life challenges brings fishing and all of our other hobbies into perspective. I know I have a deeper love for the sport after my past year and the time on the water truly does make it all worth while.
I lost everything but a rod and a small box of flies that was in my truck and the clothes on my back in a house fire. Not the same ordeal that you have been through and no one was physically injured – but an eye opener for sure. The whole thing changed my perspective. We shouldnt take our simple pleasures for granted. This forum is bringing back some other loves as well. To see you on a kayak is going to cost me money because kayaking is what brought me to the river to begin with… Now I have to have a kayak again – just not set up for white water.
